Texas governor may allow insurance companies to short-change Hurricane Harvey victims

An insurance reform bill signed into law by the Republican governor of Texas in May could allow insurance companies to underpay victims of the devastation brought about by Hurricane Harvey.

According to Dallas-Ft.Worth real estate expert Candy Evans, House Bill 1744 was signed by Gov. Greg Abbott with the understanding that it would clamp down on insurance fraud and limit the ability of policy holders to sue their insurer.

As Evans notes, “The law reduces the penalties insurance companies can face if they settle claims for too little, and it lessens the chance the companies will have to pay the homeowner’s attorneys fees if the homeowner sues. It also protects individual agents from things like diminished credit scores if they are individually sued.”

More pertinent, in light of the Harvey devastation, the bill includes all weather-related damages including floods, wildfires, hail and hurricanes.

According to Evans, the limitations should come as no surprise, with State Sen. John Whitmire (D-Houston) warning about the untended consequences of the bill during debate in May.

Too bad Florida didn't have this bill when Trump claimed $17 million for $3,000 in damages.:D

Trump will tell you that what he did was perfectly legal, and shows what a shrewd businessman he is.

Now he gets a chance to show his shrewdness in funding the recovery.

If he follows his business practices, expect bribes, kickbacks, laundered mafiya money, and finally default. Smart!

One thing Trump won't be able to do is skip out on debts by declaring bankruptcy. He was good at that.

Try "not raising the debt ceiling" and 'default', the national versions of bankruptcy. He's threatened such recently. USA could go underwater financially Real Soon Now.

Best Buy apologizes for ‘big mistake’ of price-gouging Texans for water — after their stock tanks

Electronics retailer Best Buy is apologizing to outraged consumers after a social media storm of complaints against a Houston area store charging $42 for a case of case of bottled water.

The image, which raced across the internet, shows $42.96 cases of Dasani bottled water, next to a “limited supply” of “Smart Water” for $29.98 a case.

“As a company we are focused on helping, not hurting affected people,” Best Buy told Business Insider. “We’re sorry, and it won’t happen again.”

The company claims the “big mistake” was caused by an employee multiplying the price of a single bottle. The company says the price-gouging signage was only up on Friday and that the Cypress, TX store in question is now closed due to Hurricane

So $20-30 a gallon was a "mistake"?
Not fucken' hardly it was gross exploitation and needs to be prosecuted! The Manager of that store and his regional manager need to be provided with the liberty to seek other employment!

Ted Cruz said the Aid for Hurricane Sandy was loaded with pork.
But now he says Texas needs immediate Federal Aid!

Chris Christie calls Ted Cruz a liar over claim Hurricane Sandy aid went to ‘unrelated pork’ projects

Gov. Chris Christie (R) slammed Sen.Ted Cruz (R-TX) on MSNBC Tuesday night, calling him a liar for saying two-thirds of the Hurricane Sandy relief aid had “nothing to do with Sandy.”

Speaking with host Chris Hayes, the blunt-talking New Jersey governor heaped scorn on Cruz for lying in the service of portraying himself as a fiscal champion.

According to Cruz, the bulk of Sandy aid distributed to New Jersey in 2012 to recover from Sandy was “filled with unrelated pork.”

Cruz has been on the defensive in the wake of Hurricane Harvey damage to Texas, defending himself against claims that he and other Texas GOP lawmakers are hypocrites for requesting federal disaster relief for their state after refusing to help New Jersey in 2012.

“What was wrong was for Ted Cruz to exploit Sandy for political gain, and that’s what he was doing,” Christie told MSNBC’s Hayes.

“The fact of the matter is that is an absolute falsehood that two-thirds of the $50 billion didn’t go to Sandy aid. It’s an absolute falsehood,” he continued. “Let’s remember what Senator Cruz was trying to do at the time: He was trying to be the most conservative, the most fiscally conservative person in the world.”

No Governaor he was being a dick!

Nah Texas Red is a character in a Marty Robbins Gunfighter Ballad

He was vicious and a killer though a youth of twenty four
and the notches on his pistol numbered one and nineteen more.

Come to think of it there could be a similarity.

Hurricane season is still young. Seawater is still hot. Storms can continue to brew. Coastal poor folks haven't been sufficiently fucked yet. But that's okay, it's only a Chinese hoax. Wait, Rush Limbo sez it's a NOAA hoax. Whew.
