I'm not sure why it's even a question in this day and age, but why can't women take their tops off in places where men can?

Same reason for all the stupid dress code bullshit. Women's bodies are sexualized. We can't tempt the boys you know. :rolleyes:

Appreciating the beauty of a woman's body is just healthy sexuality, you may say. Well, in 2006 the American Psychological Association (APA) formed a task force for the purpose of examining the subject and they proposed that any one of these four components of sexualization sets it apart from healthy sexuality:
• A person's value comes only from his or her appeal or behavior, to the exclusion of other characteristics;
• A person is held to a standard that equates physical attractiveness (narrowly defined) with being sexy;
• A person is made into a thing for others' sexual use, rather than seen as a person with the capacity for independent action and decision making; and/or
• Sexuality is inappropriately imposed upon a person. (This is especially relevant when children are imbued with adult sexuality).

Mainly by society. See young girls beauty pageants. :rolleyes:

(ETA - five second google search before getting ready for work - take it as you will.)

Don't beauty pageants teach empowerment? Composure?

Are they ruled by society or by basic human nature? Does not the whole of the animal kingdom comprise of the two sexes seeking the best possible mate that can be attracted?

;) ;)

I think that they should, but they will have to expect catcalling, being called sluts and potential assault. Now, I don't condone these actions, but the fact of the matter is that some people are assholes, and we can't legally stop them from acting like this.

Gross.

honestly, there are several places where men can go topless that i really wish they fucking wouldn't.

but beaches and shit where a bit of skin is expected and accepted? yeah, fine. guys and girls should feel free to go topless if they wish.

Nude is natural, but clothes evolved as a means to adapt to climate.

There are a limited number of places and times where anyone would want to go nude.

I'm not sure why its a question...you already know they can go topless in Canada.
Its just that you can't talk them into it

Women tempt men all the time anyway. Clothes are essential to the temptation.

Out on the dance floor, the naked woman has a definite disadvantage compared to the woman with a decent set of foundation garments.

Someone should tell the Muslims how prudish we really are.

This whole "great satan" rep is largely undeserved.

Try reading the whole story when you have a minute.

For those that do read, clearly, women are not allowed to be topless in public in Ontario, despite the Courts having ruled decades ago that it is okay.

But again...why should it even be a question?

Depends on the top under the top. Some (many) are better left covered.

Yes of course

In France it is very common. Total nudity is even better. Skinny dipping is wonderful
