The Sexuality of Women in Their 40's and 50's

Our sex life really improved when my wife was in her 40's and our kids had left home. We were free to have sex whenever and wherever we wanted. Porn was allowed in the house. It was like she rediscovered her sex drive. That was 10 years ago and we're still going strong.

A woman's sex drive is dependent on her hormones and mostly testosterone. Well, 99% dependent.

Little or no testosterone means a woman has little or no sex drive. Men and women should have a baseline hormone panel done in their early 40's.

"They" say our sex drive is mostly in our heads. That is so wrong. If a car is out of gas and oil, no amount of wishing it would run will make it run.

Now with that being said, no amount of balanced hormones can fix a not so great or broken relationship.

Antidepressants

Small anecdote re this post: I have taken antidepressants for many years. In 2015, my psych and I decided I was stable and did not need the amount of SSRI drugs. So, we weaned me away from one of them which was paroxetine (brand name Paxil). Took the last one February 2016. My libido has rebounded very strongly. It was like my sex drive was constrained by the SSRI. And now, SB, it is like your freight train roaring back. :)

So, just to point out, antidepressants can put the kibosh on your sex drive. Male or female.

I could not agree more madam.
I have browsed some of your posts and admit I am smitten.
Love a lady who talks sense.

From now?!

I love that photo too, it makes me smile!

I am one of the ones whose libido went up, wayyy up starting around 39 or so. It's a blessing and a curse when you don't have a live-in partner who's available 24/7 even if he's sleeping or trying to work :)

I read on message boards about some women but so many men with what I call the sexless wife syndrome. I can't figure out the solution other than I think birth control pills can lower libido. I actually went on them to make mine calm down but they also made me depressed so I stopped. So, no advice but commiseration.

Similar experience here. Two years ago, age 45 (well, a week shy of 46) my sexless ex left me in a show of far greater wisdom than I had. I went off antidepressants, and my libido roared back.

It is definitely frustrating not having a regular partner, but this is so much better than the emotional and medical place I was in. And there are many good toys out there :) Ladies, I highly recommend this:

Great recomendation. We might just have to look into this to add to our extensive collection. Both in our 50s and our libidos have never been better!

I don't have personal experience with the we-vibe but girlfriends that have it, give it mixed reviews. Some love it and some hate it.

My go to clit vibe is a very cheap one called Athena. It's by Dr. Laura Berman. I buy these 20 at a time and give them to girlfriends. Out of about 50 women or so that have received it, only 1 said she didn't love it. Every other woman said it's become her new best friend.

Another vibe that gives the most intense orgasms is called The Womanizer. It gently sucks, does not vibrate. When using it feels good but it's very subtle and the first time I used it, I was like...mmmm....this isn't doing very much for m....HOLY SHIT!!! It was one of the strongest and most intense orgasms I've had.

I don't think it's great for sex play. It's more for masturbating because of the subtlety. I tried it during sex and there was too much other stuff going on for it to work.

My dame is 73. Almost any form of affection will get her wet, and she will get orgasm in 3 minutes with finger, tongue, or dick. U got at least 20 more years of fun, kids!

This one looks interesting to say the least.

Offbrand ED pills?

Hubby and me are enjoying our empty nest years and have tried some things that have surprised and delighted both of us! Our gown kids would faint! Lol

Anyway, recently my man lost his job when the company was sold and we've been on COBRA insurance, which isn't cheap, but better than nothing. We can't afford ED pills for him, at least for now and it is really getting him down. We love each other well and he takes great care of my needs, but it hurts me so to see his frustration with soft elections. He knows that I love him, but it's making him guilt and somewhat withdrawn.

I've heard that you can buy generic Viagra etc. online, but there are so many websites and it's hard to know if they're scams or the real products. I don't want him taking anything that would hurt him!

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations. I would really appreciate some help.

Thanks, Katie
