Just looking at other thread I started and wondered exactly how we ascertain how healthy we are. Of course I'm sure only a doctor can know for sure, but, touch wood, I honestly believe I'm as fit now as when in my early twenties. A bit heavier and can't run like I used to, but much stronger and my libido is hungrier than ever. What about you guys and girls? Is 50 the new 20?....

Its important in my eyes to stay in good shape. Especially the older l get.. the biggest source of inspiration comes from the person you see in the mirror everyday. l workout at least 3 times a week at a local gym, I've noticed the last few yrs. a lot of older people have joined...so l would agree.. 50 is the new 20....l think if you have time to spend on here, you have time to go workout. You will feel much better physically and mentally...

At 51, I feel as good as I've ever felt. I can do anything I want -- or need -- to do. I don't think you need to knock yourself out: A few times a week at least at your target heart rate for 30 minutes, and lift something heavy a couple times a week.

I also try to eat as clean as possible, eliminate as much processed food, sugar as possible and stay hydrated. There are a lot of metabolic risk factors you can affect by a careful diet and a modicum of movement without being too extreme.

I would totally concur. At 54 & a self employed professional you have to keep yourself fit to so your mind can stay engaged and active too. I play sports a couple of times a week & have a home gym system I utilize. I've certainly noticed that those who are "older" in my client base - there is a marked difference between those who "do" and those who "don't" - the "doers" reap their rewards physically, mentally, financially & otherwise ... so like the Nike motto "Just Do It"! ... it also a huge benefit to have a positive outlook on life and NOT sweat the small stuff like many seem to do.

Fantastic replies, good luck to you all. You get out of life what you put in and this demonstrates the cliché more than anything.

For me the biggest sign of how people look after themselves with the stark comparisons are school/ class reunions. It's frightening how some have completely let themselves go. We all have a hand of cards in life and can't all look like Brad or Angelina, but we can sure as hell give looking our best the greatest shot we possibly can...

I'm not in that age range but for me it's the reverse. The older I get biologically, the younger I feel mentally . I was such an old soul when I was v. young - low self-esteem and stressed about what others thought of me.
And I believe that Eastern cultures are wiser than our own - they look at 'ageing' from a more existentialist perspective no ageism there.

PS - haven't seen my classmates in ages nothing more traumatizing than those shocked but polite stares.. (although I still look hot - joking)

fifty is not the new 20, fifty is fifty even if you are fit and active, would I trade this 55 yo body for the one I had at 20 oh yes. (for info I'm a fit active non overweight guy with all my own hair and teeth :D )
