Almost winter, but any way there is something about bundling up in the cold crisp air and walking through a sleeping brown and grey forest. With the the green curtian down there so much more to see in the lay of the land...creeks you never noticed still surrounded by green ferns. A good winter walk is a good cure for the winter blues. The barren snow covered field...beautiful emptiness.

I was watching a Christmas B movie set in a Michigan winter landscape, and the whole time they kept playing crickets in the background. I was surprised you could hear them through the tiny ski masks.

That was beautifully weird. But at first I missed a crucial 's', being English, and it was briefly even weirder.

I used to love the walk around the private lake. Cold, snowy, my whisky, gun and labrador my sole companions as I trudged up and down the hills so unusual in Kansas; a slight set of protuberances upon a flat plain.
