Why does religion matter? We are talking about the legal status of a couple in a supposedly free and secular society bound by the highest law in the land to treat every citizen equally under the law.

As silly as it sounds, it's really just a rewrite of the Messiah story the Jews believed in from the Old Testament, so they wrote it in, shifting the birthplace to the city of david to match the texts and adding the wise men for the royal touch predicted by the jewish prophets.

They even called him King of The Jews as a recruitment tool.
