👀 What are you watching on ______ (Netflix/HBO Max/Hulu/etc.) 📺💻

Today, some movies:

First viewing of the Swedish film Watch the Skies - all UFO stuff. It gets off slow, builds disparate questions, but about halfway through, it all gels and makes for a thoroughly enjoyable ending, with a decent amount of action thrown in. Loved it, but maybe not for everybody.

Next was a brutal Gem: Bull. A vicious, gory British crime/revenge tale. I never saw anybody in this flick in any other movie, but star Neil Maskell plays his part as a calm, but homicidal revenge-seeker is excellent. Fabuolous!

Next, a second viewing of Fled with Stephen Baldwin - back when he had a shot at being a big star) and Laurence Fishburne. It's a fine leftover 80s action flick released in the 90s. Love 80s and 80s action flicks, so no problem here. A worthy watch.

For me, it's about movies on weekends:
First viewing of Watch the Skies, an interesting Swedish flick about a daughter that thinks her UFO conspiracy father was abducted by aliens. The plot reveals itself slowly, but when it gains steam, it's very intriguing. Watch if you're into UFO stuff.

Next up was Bull, a great British gangster revenge flick. The reason for the revenge unfolds as the vicious and bloody events ensue. Well placed, with great flashbacks helping the story line, this is a brooding, bloody piece, with a great turn by taciturn star Neil Maskell. Brutal.

Next a second viewing (after 30 years) of Fled, with Stephen Baldwin and Luarence Fishburne - basically, a mid 90s action flick left over from the 80s. This ain't 'The Defiant Ones' but it's good enough in its own right.

Next, a revisiting of Gremlins, from 1984, which was the last time I saw it. Great story, but I forgot about all the exasperating 'cuteness' director Joe Dante injected. It's still amazing that this movie was granted a PG rating, given the bloody gore involved - but there were zero bare boobs.

Next was The Defender, a low budget effort which had a winning through-story, but was slowed down by pitifully bad fight/action sequences - everybody punches like a girl, including the star, Sasha Macpherson, but this is still a movie where the story is expertly revealed, and rules all. Not perfect, but engaging at every turn.

I'm about to watch a documentary about Warren Jeffs (the leader of the FLDS). It's called Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey.
