Runners unite

I’m going to do a half marathon in March I hope 🤞 but then flip over to a triathlon in the summer, prob somewhere in France but I need to get some stars to align.
Would like do a marathon at some stage but the training just eats into all your free time and then you have to cut out other fun activities.

How about you??
Interesting. Hard to balance the training for Tris I imagine.

I'd like to do a second 50 miler or perhaps my first ,100k. I don't think the stars will align though....too much going on

Who here has a longer distance resolution for 2025?
First marathon is on the schedule for February, but I got a knee injury from early December that I am working through right now. Slowed my training quite a bit.

Did my first park run in a few months this morning - smashed my PB.
Delighted with myself - a small victory against age and over consumption this Christmas.
Happy New Year folks!!
Excellent effort, especially during the festive season.

Those first 3 to 4 runs back are always really hard.
Running is very cruel, as soon as you stop, even for a short time you lose condition very quickly.

When the run gets really hard, everything hurting or mind telling you to stop what do people think about to keep going?

I fight with myself to reach my next Runner’s High which for me happens at 8, 14 and 20 K. Have only done 1/2 marathons so I don’t know if there are more, but someday I’ll try to find out.

Oh man, that's me. Every time. I have full conversations in my mind.

I think it depends on the issue. They could be a multitude of reasons... lack of sleep, improper hydration, something inside the shoe, chaffing, bad fueling, horrible weather (typical of Florida: hot and humid). If there are things like that, i usually talk myself out of the hole. I know is my mind playing tricks on me.

If it is during a race: (5k/10k/half) My usual auto speech is something like:
  • UUUGGHHH you went out too fast again, and now you are burnt out.
  • You have trained for this.Stop whining.
  • You knew that would happen if you had that for dinner
  • You have ran farther than this, stop complaining
  • You have been in worse races than this and you managed to finish.
  • Oh you please, just shut up?
  • ... I really need to pee
  • Oh man, these shoes are not the right ones. If I had "Other shoes"... Wait, why is that guy that passed me barefoot??? Shit, is not the shoes then.
  • When was the last time you drank water and had a GU? Maybe that's it
  • The first 2 miles are BS, you know that. Keep going.
  • There IS a finish line, and it will come, it is just a matter of time. Just keep moving.
  • How come the mom with the stroller is faster than you??? Chop chop
  • That guy is easily twice you weight and is going strong, what is your problem?
  • Remember that you WANTED to be here and PAID to be here. Now you ARE here. Enjoy the pain. Get that medal.
  • Turn the music off, listen to your breathing, control your pace. FOCUS.
  • and the best one yet... Look at THAT ASS! Follow it!

When I am training is different:
  • If you go home know you are never going to improve
  • The only way to get better is to do one more mile
  • ...I bet we can hold one mile faster than that...
  • I know is hot, race day will be hot too, you better dial in your water+ Fuel now
  • You know if you leave now you are going to resent it later. Finish the workout.
  • Heart rate is too high? Take a break but don't leave. Cool off, drink water, take 10 minutes. Go again.
  • How can they be that much faster than me? Fuck. Well because they do this every day. You don't. Wanna be faster? Come more often.
  • When you were home, you wanted to be here. Then BE HERE

But is you are HURT, then you must listen to your body to avoid something more serious.

That's just me. Curious to know what other people think.

For me, I think of the Homer Simpson inner monologue in the Simpsons Movie. "No I can't, yes you can, no I can't, yes you can, you shut up, no, you shut up, no you, no you......

I giggle, and keep going.

I have a short race tomorrow and I am going to be laughing remembering this, lol

Made me laugh and I relate to that sort of dialogue!
I've also tried to zone out in a race and just look at that ass in front too.!

Raced a couple of times so far already this year. 10k on Jan 1 to kick the year off. XC race Sunday just gone. Both decent, but not where I want to be. Hoping to beat my PB’s from a couple of years back these coming months!

great work buddy

I am on a hard push this week having lost so much through injuries and illness.

Two runs and two spinning sessions this week so far to try to get the body used to it again.....have to be careful obviously, but keen to get back and nail a PB this year.

Nice work for it only being Wednesday! Keep it sensible as you say, but got to put the work in to get after those times, right!?

It was good. Thanks for asking. I managed to drop a minute on my time since last 5k. Still not a fast runner, kind of middle of the pack. Not a bad way to start the year
Great, well done you. Good to get one under you belt so early in the year.
