The Official Authors' Hangout National Nude Day 2018 Support Thread

I delete all comments that mention scoring. I assume those come from trolls or other writers. I also think only other writers mention contest themes in comments. I delete those too.

Today I got a comment that my Interracial entry was too Black supremacy for the contest. The main character is a white female. She has sex with a famous basketball player named Michael Gordon. I could have made the lead male in the story white and called him Larry Boid, but then it wouldn't have fit in Interracial. Would it have made the story less Black supremacy? One wonders.

I bet the comment had more to do with the NBA?

I'd say nothing to do with NBA, and everything to do with being a racist insecure little man. Sounds like an LW turd fell out of the cat box and is roaming around.

For me, Summer is Xmas and New year and I get a bit of backlash if I include them in my summer story, the same with the winter holidays contest. If my Holidays are summery or if my winter doesn't include the holidays. The season differences tend to matter but only in those two contests.
People don't seem to mind if Valentine's day is summery or Halloween is on the spring equinox instead of autumn. But I tend to have to put an authors note explaining that I am Antipodean :)

ÒOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Agreed. It is very frustrating. For winter I like to mention the Queen's Birthday. As no one knows much about it, including me, I can have her pole vaulting if I want. We don't do halloween, don't have a National Nude Day and It's not us who are arse about face with winter and summer. Just imagine not having Christmas in summer!- I can't. It's a crime. Kids getting bicycles for Christmas and they have to be put in the shed because the snow is high enough to get lost in. Amazing. And when is there to be a contest for the cup?

May I ask, very respectfully, what is a podean (some thing with legs?..) because I'm not sure I'm anti it at all, It might be me. (Thanks Barry) Any way, it's fingers and toes that matter now. We've gone digital.

Measurements are another thing that need explanation. Crutch and crotch, Pick up and ute, math and maths ( hell, we can count to more than one!) So many things that draw criticism.

Isn't it our differences that make us interesting? Even If a little misunderstood.

Mine's in the queue. Assuming it will hit tomorrow. Hopefully, not too late in the day.

...
Nude is the theme and truth be told, every body is nude in porn stories(with the exception of some spins here and there) its as easy of a 'qualification' as summer and winter is as in its hot its cold...
...

Indeed. As almost all of what I write here is exhibitionist/public nudity themed anyway, it wasn’t exactly a challenge to write in keeping with the Nude Day theme. I wasn’t straying outside my comfort zone, and the scenario I used was from my “to do” list of story ideas anyway.

Still, the contest aspect of it was the kick up the arse (in the form of a deadline) I needed to get myself out of a bit of a funk and actually write something again, so it’s been a good experience however I end up placing and it’s made me consider trying to enter future contests where the theme might be a bit more challenging to fit my usual subject matter.

Editing this post because....it may not be in yet. For some odd reason I decided to look at the word doc once more before I closed it and realized I submitted the first draft, not the final product. Not even talking just editing issues, but two additional chapters that didn't make the cut and a slightly different ending.

Going to have to click pending and put in the right one, but after one more quick skim to make sure everything is right. Might still be up tomorrow if I get it done quick enough.

How is it that the 'Loving' Wives category has anything but loving wives?

There is no love at all in that category anymore. The reconciliation stories get blasted by trolls who want to see the wife dead and call the husband a faggot cuck for taking her back.

My story has the wives cheating the whole way through and the husbands never find out. Not sure if that means they're cucks because they don't know, what I do know is....I'm going to get some interesting comments.

It's no so. There are stories about wives who love their husbands, but who have extramarital fun. That's how the site describes the category on the main story page. That's the main purpose of the category, but that's been somewhat lost because of the vitriol directed at those kinds of stories.

Slow start, and well off the leader board, I'm sure, but getting lots of new followers. Also attracting even more attention to Holly Jolley, which has been steadily climbing in votes/views/favorites since December. Just broke 2900 votes, on its way to 3k now :D

New story hitting in this name and one as Les tomorrow. ( Non contest ) Dark story well underway. Another RR Milf tale underway. Another Fey Folk story as Les outlined. Have basic outlines for the next couple of Ancient Peoples stories put together. More RR quickies outlined.

Solid, productive week. Even managed to purchase and assemble a new shelf for my printer, getting it off the tray table it's been sitting on for years, and providing some extra storage to tidy my desk, making things easier to get to.

Unless Laurel exercises stricter content control then it is the readers, not the site, that controls what a category is for.

Has the site stopped grouping similarly named stories? I had some stories with names like ABC: Jennifer Needs a Job and ABC: Marley Needs a Meal, and all those stories appeared in a group, as long as they had the ABC: part in the title, at the very start. But now new stories with that kind of title are not grouping with the others. I can't be sure if it's new policy, a limitation of the new dashboard, or something else?

If it's new policy, I'll remove the ABC part, because why bother?

After one of the major infrastructure updates, people started reporting issues with stories grouping incorrectly, and doing strange things. ( on top of the existing bug that happened if you renamed a story in a series after it was published )

My guess is that they've temporarily disabled a lot of the series code in order to stop those new bugs from causing problems it's going to take them a while to clean up, once they have the conflict with the new infrastructure worked out.

I saw that. I assumed it was because contest stories by rule are supposed to be stand-alone stories, so Laurel intentionally did not group them with the older stories.

I think it's more likely the bug RejectReality mentions. It also happened to a pair of non-contest stories of mine that had a different title designation at the start. What do you even call that thing in the title?

I bet you're right. I have seen that same problem with stories jumping into groups that weren't previously linked. Someone wrote me a comment to say they were disappointed with the disjointedness of my new series. haha I was like uh...

How do you write so much so quickly? You're like a machine! It usually takes me weeks or even months to write something and polish it up enough to feel comfortable posting it.

LOL, I don't.

I went through most of 2016 without finishing a damn thing.

The RR stories don't take all that long. Once I have a premise I'm happy with, they're pretty simple. They're what I call one step above "is there another way I can pay for this pizza?"

Pure, simple, stroke fare that's typically only 5000-7500 words.

Feather and Scale was an anomaly. I had the idea a while ago, but it actually did get started and the first draft finished in the same weekend. I already know what the next two stories in that series are, so watch and see how long it takes either of them to appear. LOL

The story I'm working on as Dark will be a while. It's an involved history tale that I'm guessing will clock in at over 20k words. My estimates are usually low, once my characters start running off on their own without so much as a by your leave.

I was on vacation this week, so a lot of WIP and long-mused ideas got off the ground and running. It's a gross misrepresentation of my typical production rate.

So, this is going to be my first story here. And I'm so excited. I plan on writing something positively wicked. There's something so sexy about being nude, and knowing someone is just watching you, in your skin, and hair and nothing more. You're vulnerable, you're sexed, fucking hell. And they own that image of you, forever. How many people have seen you in just your skin? Exactly.
I'll be back with a story. Thanks for the cheer!

If it's going to be your first story, then keep in mind that the scores in contests are highly volatile, and often beaten down severely.

Once the malicious scores are removed by sweeps, just prior to the announcement of the winner, your score should return to a level more akin to what it would have received otherwise, were it not for the contest shenanigans.

The last day to submit is the 11th, so you're a bit short on time as well.

Of course, even if you miss the contest deadline, there's nothing stopping you from submitting it as a regular story. Or, should it have adequate summer theming, save it for the upcoming Summer Lovin' contest. There's a sticky at the top of this forum ( Authors please read ) that shows the dates for the contests this year.

Luck to you :)

I submitted mine yesterday. Based on a plot bunny from the thread "Any Advise from Romance Writers", it has:

-A sexy park ranger,
-A Jeep
-Short shorts
-Sexy hiking boots (it's my fantasy, so just go with it!)
-No mosquitoes

Set on a canoe trip in Northeastern Ontario.

Oh yeah, lots of casual nudity and sex.
