Heather walked briskly out of the office and down the hall to the elevator, making Brandi almost have to jog to keep up.
"The final entry is when the judge approves and signs the divorce decree," she said over her shoulder. "Once the decree is signed and filed, the divorce is official and the marriage is over."
They stepped into the elevator and Heather pressed the button for the street level. "With Mr. Harrison, he and his wife have agreed on the terms of the decree, so today is just a formality," she said. "Unless something strange happens, the hearing won't take more than five or ten minutes."
She looked at Brandi. "And then," she said, "we'll have a little surprise for Mr. Harrison."
The elevator door opened and Heather strode quickly through the lobby, then outside and across the plaza to the edge of the street. "Taxi!" she yelled loudly. A yellow cab pulled up alongside her and they both clambered into the back seat. "County courthouse," she said, and the cab pulled away.
