Another good piece of information I thought as she told me the line she wouldn’t cross. Now I knew exactly when to intervene and I felt like I was starting to get a better handle on this whole thing. In retrospect it probably would have been a good idea to insist to Kazmer that I met her in the morning had had some runway to get up to speed. It certainly would have been easier than getting dropped in where I was.

As Brad walked up I could see the distain in his eyes as he looked at me. He was obviously irritated that I was cock blocking him but he’d just have to get used to it.

When she said I needed to stay with her Brad looked over at me again and I gave him the most menacing look I could muster. He may be rich and powerful but if he stepped out of line I’d crush him like a grape and enjoy every second of it.

“Those are the orders.” I said almost mockingly.

While his eyes were on Devin, Brad met that menacing glare with indifference. However as I caught him looking down at me, it changed. Why? I was something he wanted. Badly. I had been since the moment Kazmer began insisting I come to this place.

A gave him a fake dimpled smile that to most just looked real and adorable. Yeah, it didn't quite meet my eyes, but those dazzled. I know it because Actress. I was actually good at it.

"Fine, fine... but you're still coming off into my office." He said while wrapping an arm possessively around me. Yeah, that wasn't somewhere I wanted to go either. So far through sheer luck, I avoided it.

I made a non-committal sound at him and just let him lead me along. Of course, we were just about to head to a staircase when we ran into Betsy. She blinked a little, noted me squashed against him and proceeded to throw arms about me and literally drag me away out of his grip. "No, Brad, no, she's coming to meet someone who actually has a project for her to read for." As she effectively cock blocked him from me and waved Devin back down the steps.

Yes, Betsy was still underdressed by a bra and a shirt or something. But, I'd have prefered to feel her half nude against me than Brad.

I had no idea what Brad thought he might be able to get away with up in his office with me there but whatever plan he had was ended when his wife stepped in. It was kind of a weird scenario. Had you asked me yesterday I’d have said to watch out for the woman walking around a party topless. Today, she seemed like the responsible one. I have to admit though, if I was a woman with tits like that I’d probably be walking around topless too.

For now it seemed things had been redirected back to the main area of the house and I was thankful for at least that. Didn’t necessarily mean things wouldn’t take a turn again though. I had a feeling Brad wasn’t giving up that easy.

As we went down I began to wonder what was Betsy playing at, she'd never done this before. Was there someone or was she trying to be vaguely nice to me?

I soon found out the answer after travelling through two rooms. One was the room where we'd found food, then we went up a different staircase. I swear if I hadn't spent three years wandering about here I'd have been lost.

So when we headed for the blue room, I couldn't help but stop for a second, before she dragged me onwards. Anyone in here wasn't going to be the kind of person I wanted to do readings for in a million years.

"Now Angel, be a dear, and go over there." Even as she said it and politely shoved my shoulder. I found myself thrust through a doorway where three people were fucking on a bed. While a fourth was merely watching them as if he was watching paint dry.

"Betsy... I don't.--" I heard that ever so rougher male voice speak then, cutting me off.

"Bets, what did you bring this time? Something elusive?" When I noticed him turn and look up at me there was this adjustment of his trousers, right before he began undoing them.

"Now, on your knees.." That was all he said.

This just might be the point I spun about looking to Devin, slightly wide-eyed. I had no issue with fun, or with doing it for a reason. But I wasn't about to go down on the biggest Porn influence ever.

The further Brad’s wife led us into the recesses of the house the more I thought my changed opinion of her was wrong. When she pushed open the door on a gang bang in progress my feeling was confirmed.

I could tell Angel wanted no part of any of this and, had I not been there, she probably would have ended up getting gang banged herself but that wasn’t happening tonight.

As the man stood and powered his pants she turned to me with a pleading look in her eyes.

“That ain’t happening tonight. You can put that little thing away.” I said before grabbing her arm and leading her back out the door.

“We’re out of here.” I said making our way down the hall.

There may have been legitimate prospects there but, given the hour, I suspected she was only likely to get more of this kind of thing.

I don't think I'd ever been more relieved to feel his hand, anyone's hand wrapped around my wrist. I let him instantly start pulling me along with him and as we left there to the tune of Betsy laughing her ass off.

I was pretty sure Devin might just be lost in trying to leave, as he took us along a hallway I knew we hadn't walked down. Seeking to get his attention. "Devin... turn right, down the stairs, then left and along, when you hit the dining room with all the food and people. You'll be able to find the exit from there."

With directions given to him, I knew he'd get us out of there. I knew the next time that Kazmer said I had to come here to, work the contacts. Devin just might have something to say about that.

The stairs were clear, the passageway had doors along it which were shut, and I'd never been more thankful they were. Then we spilled into the dining room and it was more chaotic. I'd actually never seen it look so bad this early.

With Angel's help I was able to wind our way to through the maze of their house and in little time we made it out the door. I hadn't really sensed any pushback from her on getting out of there so I didn't think I was dragging her out of there against her will. It just seemed like, the way things were going, there were way too many predators circling.

Making it to the car I opened the door and she slid into the passenger seat. Closing the door behind her I rounded the car and climbed in beside her and turned the engine over.

"Any other stops you want to make?" I asked not knowing if there were other after parties she was obligated to attend.

I slid into the car, my baby, and relaxed back into that seat. Smoothing my skirt over my thighs. He hopped in and started her up. I exhaled softly, "No... no."

Then I thought about it for a moment. "Oh, there's a stand that does yummy tacos... maybe?" I had my belt on and turned fluttering lashes.

"Please?" Yes, I suddenly wanted a taco. I so rarely had them, but something decadent and none the usual fare. Seemed exactly what I needed.

"I'm sure Kazmer told you no. He ... hates it when I do that. But. I could just do with a rest of the night where I get my way... without, needing to flash anything."

I was wondering how much Kazmer had admitted.

“Let’s get one thing straight!” I started out in the harshest tone I could muster pointing my finger at her. “I wasn’t hired to be your dietitian.” I finished with a more playful tone and a smile.

“Taco’s sound great! And no more flashing anything tonight.” I said pulling out.

I followed her directions to the taco stand and got out to get us a couple. Coming back we leaned against the hood of her car in the warm night air eating late night tacos.

In between bites I decided I needed to clear the air about something.

“Just so you know my only job is to protect you. I didn’t, nor would I, sign up for anything else. Kaz hired me but I’m not beholden to him and I won’t answer to him. While I’m protecting you, you are the only one I answer to.”

I felt like it was important to say so she understood I wasn’t here to make sure she did what Kaz wanted.

With his tone, my eyes widened and well, I might have flinched back a little. Yes, I'd been on the other end of someone's temper once or twice. When the tone changed, I noted the more playful tone. I instantly relaxed. Hand to chest and such. I feel my heart racing a little.

Once we had them I was sitting there on the hood of my baby, eating something decadent in my eyes and thoroughly loving every bite. I found myself listening to him there.

"Kazmer is going to regret you, isn't he?" Sure, I might have made it a question but it wasn't not really. Maybe he caught in my expression as I lowered the last third of mine that I had more to say.

"He keeps things from me. I'm not quite sure why he hired you. If there are bad things, I don't see them. He gets my fan mail. He handles it. That's the deal. I put up with all his shit, do everything he asks and don't sass him."

I had a bite chewing as I worked out what to say next. "So, I'm going to guess there's bad things. In that mail. Course, he won't be expecting you to, do what you did at Brad's." I couldn't look at him as I said that.

"He'd be expecting you to be watching for other stuff. Not, what people might want to do with me, .... that ..... way." I drew it out because I just couldn't bring myself to name it. Not here, not now.

"I do try and be good. As good as I can. So, none of that stuff I said in Brad's. I won't. Do that. No part is worth that. But, this ... gig ... being an Actress. It's not set up in a way we females have power. We ... don't. Worse, we know we don't. The only power we have is what we can sacrifice to lure the parts we want." I'd screwed up the napkin by then in that free hand.

"Callahan isn't one of the bad ones. That last guy, Betsy took me to. Yeah. He's bad. I know he's bad. He runs a lot of the porn industry, and that's not me. I won't do it on film, I won't do it to land a part. I'd be happy if talent alone was enough to get me work, but it ain't always." I lifted my taco then choosing to finish it off and listen to Devin, if he had something to say.

I considered whether to tell her or not. I didn’t feel like it was my place at the moment but if Kaz wasn’t going to tell her I probably should.

“You really should know what you’re dealing with. What he shared with me were letters from someone who is clearly unbalanced and is obsessed with you.” I looked over and saw the concern on her face. I didn’t want to worry her but at the same time she should know why I’m doing the things I’m going to do.

“This person has constructed this fantasy that you and he were an item and that you’re now ignoring him and he plans to get you back one way or the other. These people can be dangerous so that’s why I’m here. While I’m around he’s not getting to you.”

She’d finished her taco as I was talking and I could tell she was coming to terms with what I’d told her.

“Let’s get you home.” I said leading her into the car then pulling away from the taco stand.

I listened to him, and I knew Devin wasn't lying. He wasn't making this shit up. He wasn't saying it to get in my pants. No. He was saying it because Kaz, liked to keep shit from me.

Finally, way there I managed to speak. "Thanks, Devin, it... it means something that you'd tell me the truth."

Then my mind started spiralling some. I had no idea who this person was. Kazmer didn't want me to know there was real danger out there.

When he pulled up out front of my house, I took a moment to look at him. "So.... you need to go home, yes?" I was expecting him to just be there for when these things where on. That was reasonable. Surely he had someone who needed him? Right?

It occurred to me also. I didn't have a single soul in that house. Just me. Rattling about it in. That before now. I'd been there, alone, night and day. That idiot in those letters could have found me.

I was sure I was perhaps looking pale.

When we pulled up to the house it was exactly where you’d expect a young starlet to live. Modern sprawling architecture with a lot of glass exposing the living spaces. The landscaping and hedges providing ample places to hide. A security nightmare when trying to guard against stalkers.

I was a little shocked when she asked me about going home. For a manager Kaz really had no attention for detail. The deal we’d worked out was 24/7 so I’d just assumed he’d have thought to tell her and make arrangements for me to have somewhere to sleep at her house. “Unbelievable” I whispered to myself out loud.

Awkwardly I turned to her “He’d asked me to stay around 24/7 until this guy was found but I guess he left that part out when he talked to you. My stuff is in my truck at the club though. If it’s a problem I can sleep in the car tonight and we can sort it out with him in the morning. It’s not a problem.”

"Kazmar said, got a guy turning up tonight." I was dead serious when I said it. Kaz was horrible with giving me information, I'd told him that.

Causally I got out of the car. "We can get your stuff in the morning if that's okay?" I didn't want to sit out here talking. Shutting the door I walked for the gate and automatically grabbed my mail.

As I looked at what the first envelope was I slowly blinked.

To my darling soon-to-be wife Angelica Elizabeth Sorrento.

I felt the letters tumble from my hand. I'd never been Angelica anywhere. Ever. From the first hot minute, I'd decided I wanted to do this for real. My first acting lesson. I'd drop everything and just be Angel. Angel. Angel. "...Devin..." I couldn't help how unsteady my voice was at that moment I felt like I was hot, sticky, sweaty, and why were there two of him rushing for me?

I saw the letters flutter to the ground then heard her trembling voice call out my name and I knew something was wrong. I raced over and caught Angel just as her legs went weak and she started to swoon.

"Let's get you inside." I said rushing her through the gate and to the front door. Taking the keys from her hand I unlocked the door and pulled her inside quickly. Fumbling around on the wall by the entrance I found the light switch and her posh living room came into view. I set her on one of the chairs. "Wait right here, I'll be back in a second." I said before going back out to retrieve the scattered mail from the ground outside the gate all the while scanning the surroundings for anyone lurking.

When I reentered the house I could see she was still hyperventilating so I squeezed into the chair beside her and held her tight. Plucking the letter from her frozen grasp I saw what caused her panic. "Fuck, he knows where she lives." I said to myself.

"Don't worry, he could be all the way across the country for all we know." i said trying to reassure her. "And there's no way he gets close to you while I'm around."

He saw no one out there, and while he was gone I was just staring at what I held. Then he was beside me and looking at it. I hadn't been able to drop it.

Then it was gone, and I was staring at my hands, shaking against him. When he spoke I finally seemed to let those hands drop. "...but how did he find out? I don't use my name anywhere. My bills are all in Kazmer's name, the house is protected in some way too. Or so Kaz told me." I blinked up at him and saw, and felt the tears building in those eyes. God I hadn't cried tonight. No matter how bad it had gotten.

"I need a drink." I finally stuttered out at him.

“I don’t know. The thing about obsession is that it becomes a person’s full time job. The studios, the union, all of them have all of your information for tax purposes. All it takes is one person with loose lips.” I said walking over to the bar and pouring her a whiskey. It’s what she had at the party so I assumed that would work.

I handed her the glass then made my way around the living room closing all curtains and blinds that were left open.

I could imagine how disturbing it must be to find out about something like this. I certainly knew what it felt like to know there may be danger around every corner. That was the feeling I lived with in Vietnam for 2 years. Knowing at any time a bullet from nowhere could end it all.

She sipped her whiskey quietly staring blankly into oblivion.

“Let’s get you to bed. You should get some sleep.” I said as she finished the glass.

Taking her hand I pulled her up from the chair then let her lead us to her bedroom.

“I’ll be right out here.” I said stopping at the threshold as she entered. It wasn’t going to be comfortable but I felt like, at least for tonight, she needed to know I was close by.

Listening to him it all made sense. So many people knew my real, full name. Only one of them needed to choose to break their work ethic and give it up. I sighed then, deeply.

He got me a whiskey, and I didn't correct him. Right now I thought it might help a lot more. I was sipping it slowly, watching him close all those blinds up. Blinds I rarely bothered to acknowledge.

When I finished it I realised I'd spaced out there for a moment, drinking it without realising I was. Damn. I was not handling this well.

As he took my hand leading me to what was the main room. I paused in that doorway with him at my side. Again, my room here had a lot of windows. None of them made me feel safe. "Upstairs. I have rooms up there. One of them has two king-size beds in it. Instead of a king-size normal." I exhaled, realising I was still so shaky.

"I'd... I'd rather be up there, it's further from everything and up a floor. No balcony access." I moved to head along that hall, then up the steps and slowly at the top heading to the back there and pushing in a door. Revealing a lush room with two king singles, both fully made up and such. But laid out that one was closer to the door.

"... I'd rather be somewhere you can at least relax a little and know I'm safe and in a non-expected room." As I looked to him.

“Yeah, that’ll work” I said allowing her to lead me upstairs. The room was perfect for what we needed. 2 beds would allow me to be close by and I knew right now she needed that reassurance.

“You go ahead and get yourself set, I’m going to take another pass downstairs to make sure everything is secure while you do.”

I made my way back downstairs and checked all the doors taking a moment to look at some of her photos she had displayed. She really did live a glamorous, idyllic life. Outside of the chaos of the people lining up to prey on her, it seemed like a dream.

Having checked all the doors and turned out all the lights I made my way back up to find her still in the bathroom getting herself ready for bed. I slipped out of my jacket, slacks and button up shirt. Had I had any of my stuff I probably would have chosen something more then just my briefs to sleep in but it’s what I had and I had to wear my clothes again to get my truck at a minimum so I slipped into the bed just as the bathroom door opened.

While he told me what he planned to do I nodded slowly, then went into the bathroom.

I took a moment staring at the stark look on my face, the sheer pale quality. I was not okay. Still. I found my brush and did my hair slowly. Getting the knots out of it slowly.

Then I brushed my teeth, something I always did after those sorts of parties. Hell, I did it twice before I finally rinsed my mouth out, and my toothbrush.

I'd got out of everything tossed it into the hamper and climbed into my favourite t-shirt. It was long and came to mid-thigh and slowly I then turned. Realising he was there, he got into the bed. I stepped out, giving a small smile and carefully walked myself to the far bed, the one against the wall.

Sliding in between those sheets and blankets I shivered and pulled them up over myself. "..thank you, Devin."

“My pleasure.” I said softly before closing my eyes and getting some sleep.

I woke in the morning as the sunlight crept through the edge of the blinds hitting my eyes. It took me a moment to orient myself and realize where I was.

Looking over I could see that Angel had shed her covers and blanket over the course of the night. Her night shirt had ridden up exposing her shapely ass to me.

Nice! I thought to myself as I quietly slipped from my bed, grabbed my clothes then went downstairs. I’d realized in all the chaos I didn’t get a chance to read what was written in the letter. I pulled on my pants and sat down to open it and see.

Angelica,
I don’t know why you haven’t responded to my other letters. I can only assume someone is trying to keep you from me. I won’t let them keep us apart. Nobody knows you like I do. We were meant to be together and soon I will come to take you away from all the people who only love you for what you can give them. Mine is the only true love.

See you soon,
JD

“Yup, typical nut job.” I said out loud folding the letter and putting it back in the envelope before walking over to the fireplace and lighting it on fire. “She doesn’t need to read that.”

Rummaging through the kitchen I found what I needed to make some coffee and got it brewing.

I slept uneasily. Tossing turning, waking. Laying there, and falling back to sleep. It was why it was only as I heard the creak on the steps as he went down them.

That woke me and I rolled over. I sat up smooth and then blinked. Where was i?

The other bed unmade. Made me eye it. I stood then slowly moving, careful. Moving out the door and down stairs.

"Devin?" I remembered he'd come here with me. I also sort of forgot in was in my sleep shirt.

I was sitting at a table in the kitchen with a cup of coffee when I heard her call out for me.

"In the kitchen." I replied hearing my voice echo through the house.

As she entered in her night shirt my eyes were drawn for a moment to the movement of her breasts and how her nipples caused bumps in the worn fabric as she walked toward me. "Not something you should be noticing." I thought to myself before getting up to make her a cup of coffee.

After what happened the night before I was hoping she'd be able to put it out of her mind and leave me to worrying about her stalker but I had a feeling that might have been overly optimistic.

"So what's your schedule for the day?" I asked as I set the coffee on the table and sat back down.

While he got me a coffee, I went to the fridge for milk. Peering into it I noticed eggs, bacon and such in there. "First, coffee, breakfast. Uh, I can do eggs and bacon with tomato and toast?"

He might just be surprised that after those kinds of nights. I ate of a morning. I had to. It helped get rid of the hangover that always came.

So I began fishing things out onto the bench. unaware the light from the fridge made that white shirt a little more see-through. Even as I moved from there soon after. Shutting it.

I fetched my frying pan, i stretched up. Forgetting I didn't have panties on so half my ass was bared to him. Putting in on the oven, added a little oil and turned the gas on, and put the bacon in. Of course, I then aimed to turn and fetch the coffee and drink some gratefully. "Thank you... and uh..."

I considered it for a moment moving to the stove and using tongs to flip the bacon. "Kaz, usually won't ring before 11 am. Gives me time to get up, shower, and get dressed. I can skip the shower, and drive with you to the club to get your car. So you can shower."

I sat appreciating the silhouette of her body that shown through the thin fabric of her night shirt as she stood in front of the fridge.

As she stretched up to get the frying pan my my breath caught at the sight of her ass peeking out from beneath the shirt.

“That would be great.” I said thinking how I’d love to get a shower, brush my teeth and put on some fresh clothes. I also would feel a lot better having my gun nearby.

As much as I was trying to keep my thoughts professional it was tough with her standing there as she was. Visions of it being me she was kneeling in front of instead of some rich jackass kept running through my mind.

As she breakfast on the table I felt like it was probably the right time to talk through things again.

“I know you probably don’t want to think about it but we need to come to an agreement. Outside the house, I need to be at your side all the time. If I can’t follow you somewhere we need to talk about who’s there and make sure we cover what could go wrong. At least until we have a better handle on what’s going on. I have one of my best investigators trying to track down who’s sending the letters. He should be able to come up with something soon. Agreed?”

I knew she wasn’t used to having to worry about people keeping track of her but I hoped she’d see the need now.
