Are you saying there is no erotic interest unless there is incest? I really hope that isn't true!Cousin sex technically is incest, but the taboo element is weak, so it lacks the sizzle of more intimate incest. That's why I'll never write a cousin story. From my point of view, there's just no erotic interest.

Given that there are over 50k "Incest/Taboo" stories on Lit, one wonders if it's really such a big deal... And are there other taboos covered? What is taboo these days?Of course not. But my attitude is that when I pick a particular erotic focus, I'm going to go all-in. If I'm going to write an incest story, it's going to be a REAL incest story -- no in-laws, or step-moms, or cousins for me. I want maximum taboo and sizzle. Mom-son. Father-daughter. Brother-sister. Otherwise, I don't see the point. That's just me.
Most popular erotica these days. both here and in the pay market, is kink specific. Writing a story about the guy who gets lucky with a woman his age he met at Starbucks is never going to get the attention of something that has a niche to it, incest, milf, hotwife, interracial etc...other than the romance category people want more. Are you saying there is no erotic interest unless there is incest? I generally don't write stories that are "about" any particular sex act. I try to write stories that are stories first, where sex will generally occur, but not necessarily be the focus of the story (sort of like real life). Those are the stories I enjoy writing and reading and I don't really like categorizing things by which particular sex acts are included. But that's just my kink, I guess..Taboo is in the eye of the beholder. People have different boundaries--what they will and won't do.
For example, interracial sex used to be taboo. It isn't so much, anymore, but as an erotic category it still excites people, for a variety of reasons, maybe partly because of the appearance of taboo, or of some residual historical sense of taboo. That's a very weird, complicated fetish. But then, so is noncon, and so is incest.
Is anal sex taboo? I think for many it still is, and even for those who partake of it there is a sense of it being a little naughtier than vaginal sex. The naughtiness makes it more fun, in a story. Same thing with pee stories.
I don't think of gay sex as taboo anymore, although maybe it is for some. But the taboo element can be present in a relationship between one person who identifies as gay and one person who traditionally has identified as straight but is questioning his or her sexuality. Internal conflict creates erotic interest.
In general, taboos have fallen, and I think that's why incest is so popular, because it's one of the few things that truly remains taboo. It IS a big deal. People like to fantasize or read about it, but that is in no way evidence that people think incest in real life is mainstream or acceptable. It's precisely why I write incest stories. I think the concept in real life seems nutty or appalling. But in my fantasy worlds it can be fun, and the presence of taboo gives the stories interest.
Unless you publish a story about a guy having sex with sisters, or a gal and her mom.Incest is relations between family members...
At Literotica, incest is a "trump" category, meaning if the story has incest and other erotic elements, the incest usually trumps them and the story goes in incest, often even if you want to publish it elsewhere.
This is a site that says it doesn't allow rape stories, but has a category titles non consent. Logic has no place here.Unless you publish a story about a guy having sex with sisters, or a gal and her mom.
Which I don't understand since by Literotica rules watching someone else have sex is a sex act.
So if sis sees sis, or mom and daughter see each other have sex it's incest...
Except it's not.

Taboos are only taboos when commoners partake.
"Usually" being the operative word. I have two long stories with strong incest elements that went into my categories of choice, and thank goodness they did.At Literotica, incest is a "trump" category, meaning if the story has incest and other erotic elements, the incest usually trumps them and the story goes in incest, often even if you want to publish it elsewhere.

From what I gather, many incest readers seem to have a very high squick intolerance for anything outside their comfort zone. I think both stories would have been punished because of their other kink elements. It's a weird version of puritanical morality, I think. Very odd.
Hello all, newbie here and this seems as good a place as any to jump in. I've just posted a story about a dad and a son falling in with the same woman in the Romance category and the three of them working out a way to all get their needs met - there's no incest but I think it's pretty taboo...I assumed it would bomb in the I/T category and at the heart of it there's a romance theme of there being someone for everyone. Putting aside the question or whether it's any good or not, methinks it's gonna be too taboo for Romance though...we'll see!
Not so great, I think (but 4 positive comments which is a great boost) - I read a lot of dark romance which this would probably fit more into...but maybe that's not Lit's definition of Romance! Not how Romance will get on with it though...
