I didn't realize it was still a thing for me until I was at Fred Roger's exhibit at the Heinz Museum. I came around the corner and the whole "neighborhood" was set up, and there, right in front of me was that puppet with her weird face and giant nose, looking much larger than I recalled from childhood. I squeeked, literally squeeked in fear, like a toddler, and did a 180 out of there!

I think H.R. Pufnstuf is Axel Rose's father. While he loved children's programming, he also had the dark secret of a profound heroine addiction. Acting on TV during the day, and chasing the dragon at night was no way to raise a family. (Don't even get me started on a certain Magic dragon. That is another conspiracy for another day)
After a lifetime of abuse and neglect from his drug addicted, father Axel Rose made his way to Los Angeles, where he eventually penned "Dancing with Mr. Brownstone". The classic line " I used to do a little, but a little didn't do it. So the little got more and more" is an homage to the Pufnstuf theme song, and sad tribute to a once beloved character.
