Why calling everybody who disagrees with you a "racist" cheapens that charge!

I just read a great column by Joe Concha on The Hill web-site about how political-progressives calling everybody a racist actually makes it easier for racism to exist & even flourish!

https://i.imgflip.com/u3fsr.jpg - (If I can't have my own way, I'll just cry "RACISM" until you give in!)

Once, saying that somebody was a racist was a SERIOUS charge! But that was then & this is now. CNN and MSNBC both used the word "racist" more than 1,100 times from Sunday to Tuesday, according to a tally conducted by Grabien Media, an online media production and news prep service. That count, which doesn't include on-screen graphics, came two days after President Trump said in a Sunday tweet that four Democratic congresswomen should "go back" to their home countries. All four congresswomen are U.S. citizens, members of minority groups and three were born in the U.S.

The president and his Republican allies were quick to point out that his criticism was an IDEOLOGICAL one based on the four congresswomen's open embrace of pro-socialist, anti-American, anti-Israeli, & anti-Semitic polices.

The president's liberal critics (including the media) argued the opposite, charging that the president's comments were naked, fascist racism, adding that Trump is mentally unstable and a 21st-century Hitler. In this insane climate, this kind of unstable rhetoric is all perfectly acceptable — as it has existed since Trump first announced his candidacy.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) put things in proper perspective: "Something I have learned: If you are a Republican nominee for President – or President – you will be accused of being a racist," he tweeted earlier this week. "Congressman John Lewis (D-GA) compared John McCain’s campaign to being like that of George Wallace. Such absurdity unfortunately comes with the territory." Graham is 100 percent correct. John McCain was attacked in the 2008 presidential campaign as being a grumpy, get-off-my-lawn racist running against then-Sen. Barack Obama.

Everything seems to be racist (or soaked in racism) these days, even the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing: "America may have put the first man on the moon, but the Soviet Union sent the first woman, the first Asian man, and the first black man into orbit — all years before the U.S. would follow suit," wrote the New York Times on Thursday in a piece marinated in identity politics titled: "How the Soviets Won the Space Race for Equality."

But the Times' perspective on the Apollo moon mission pales in comparison to the Washington Post's on Tuesday: "The culture that put men on the moon was intense, fun, family-unfriendly, and mostly white and male," opined the Post.

There's an old children's book we've all read called "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." Now we're seeing it again — and again, and again. Thousands of times in the past week we've heard or read to the word "racist" or have seen it blatantly implied. Call it, "The Media That Cried Wolf."

And we all know what happened to the boy who cried wolf too often: People stopped listening.

It's no different than being called anti-semitic. The meaning has become worthless since it's thrown out so often.

The difference is, when someone talks exclusively about one particular group of people, even when they're U.S. citizens, and makes remarks about them "going back", it's quite clearly racist and straight from the 1950's playbook.

Speaking of which:
aLgYWOA_460s.jpg

But then again, being called a racist has nothing to do with being disagreed with. It has to do with one's actions and words. But you and the author knew that. All that's being done is a vain, desperate attempt to shift the story to something irrelevant and unrelated to reality.

People seem to have very different opinions as to what constitutes racism or being a racist.

The article (or its thesis at least) is absolutely right. Crying racism at absolutely everything is a bad habit among some on the left, and it does cheapen accusations of the real thing.

But the irony of all this is undoubtedly lost on Dumpington and his alts, who routinely hurl that accusation at anyone who calls him a racist. We're not saying everyone who disagrees with us is a racist, Dump. We're saying YOU are a racist, nothing more.

Here's as plainly as I can put it: Donald Trump is either a racist, or he does the best job of playing one on TV since George Wallace. Anyone who supports him at this point is either a racist or is willing to support a racist for other reasons, which I honestly consider even worse than being racist oneself (at least then you don't know any better). Now, yes, you can twist that around to argue that I'm saying anyone who disagrees with me on that particular point is a racist, and I plead guilty. But that's still a far cry from saying I believe anyone who disagrees with me on anything is a racist. I've never said that and I never will.

And the whole reason why we shouldn't accuse everyone else of being a racist? It makes it easier for people like Dumpington to rationalise their own bigotry. But then, they're going to do that no matter what.

Trump may not be a extreme racist, but he has the appearance of one who has no scruples when it comes to denigrating his perceived enemies, and anyone who doesn't praise him, or kiss his Heinnie is his enemy!

So while he may not be a racist, he is a fucking ass hole who should be sent back to New York for them to deal with. :)

Speaking of cheapening the meaning of racism, I just saw a commercial for a television show and it ends with a person saying to the camera, "If you don't watch this, you are a racist." I am sure they meant it to be humorous, but really it isn't .

You just don't know what the definition of racist is, you're conflating nationalism and ideology with racism. You want it to be racism because it fits your narrative.

So; there are 60 million americans that support Trump, so by your definition there are 60 million racist on top of everyone else you consider racist.

It’s not unreasonable to imagine that 20% of the population from a country that participated in slave trade and ownership for hundreds of years is still racist.

Besides, that they voted for him three years ago doesn't necessarily mean they all support him now. Some of them have probably seen the error of their ways. But after all we've been through since he took office? I have NO qualms about saying anyone who still supports him at this point is either a racist or willing to support a racist.

I actually think the figure is low, since there are plenty of American racists who don’t support Trump.

And what one particular group of people did he single out?

It wasn't people of any color or religion.

It was people who complain and whine about how terrible the USA is.

Making his comments nationalist, not racist.

You're absolutely part of the left that regularly conflates or equates everything you dislike with racism. Your post in this thread is just the latest example.

If only "woke" social justice lefties realized that also applied to white, Christian and heterosis scum...aka NAZIS!!!

Based upon what??

What racism???

100%.....I totally agree with Jack.

I reject all of your hate speech, all of your political hatred, and 100% support President Trump.

It’s not unreasonable to imagine that 20% of the population from a country that participated in slave trade and ownership for hundreds of years is still racist.

That applies to pretty much every single country in existence.

Indeed it does. Racism is alive and well around the world. Even though your ilk tries hard to ignore, excuse, and even deny.

Only fools lump people with the same skin color together as if they were some monolithic entity. The charge of "Racism" is a tool used by ambitious politicians, and others, to divide people while attempting to elevate themselves.

I don't know of anyone, much less liberals, that deny the existence of racism.

I've never ignored, excused or denied the existence of racism.

Deniers of white privilege in the US are deniers of racism.

Except that most of the population had nothing to do with the slave trade or ownership of slaves. Maybe you can say 20% of the Democrats, because they were almost the only ones who were involved in slavery.

That statement relies on the assumption that racism and white privilege are the same thing.

They aren't. All white privileges are racism, but not all racism is white privilege.

privilege[ priv-uh-lij, priv-lij
noun
a right, immunity, or benefit enjoyed only by a person beyond the advantages of most:
the privileges of the very rich.
a special right, immunity, or exemption granted to persons in authority or office to free them from certain obligations or liabilities:
the privilege of a senator to speak in Congress without danger of a libel suit.
a grant to an individual, corporation, etc., of a special right or immunity, under certain conditions.
the principle or condition of enjoying special rights or immunities.

racism[ rey-siz-uh m ]
noun
a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others.
a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

White privilege, means a privilege specifically for white people, making it a very specific form of racism. One that grants white people special rights or immunities, for being white. Last I checked I have the exact same rights and immunities as white, brown and black people.

So unless you can name what special rights and immunities white people enjoy, specifically for being white, that people of color do not?? There is no white privilege.

There has not been, to my knowledge, any white privilege in the USA since Jim Crow.

Denying white privilege, a very specific form of racism, doesn't mean the same thing as saying there is no racism, or even disparities or inequities.

If everyone woke up tomorrow with the same skin color (black for example), would there be any less hate in the world? No. "Racism" is just one of the many masks that hate wears.

YDB95 writes: "We're saying YOU are a racist, nothing more."

icanhelp1 responds: "So; there are 60 million americans that support Trump, so by your definition there are 60 million racist on top of everyone else you consider racist."

YDB95 seriously believes that if you didn't vote for Barack Obama (in '08 & '12) and then didn't support Mrs. Clinton (in '16) that's proof that you must be a racist! He's not kidding - he truly believes that!

sharing fantasies writes: "I just saw a commercial for a television show and it ends with a person saying to the camera, "If you don't watch this, you are a racist." I am sure they meant it to be humorous, but really it isn't"

To modern liberals, even conservative BLACK people are racists!

Black Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) recently said: "We Don't Need Any More Brown Faces That Don't Want To Be A Brown Voice" - which translated means: "We don't need any brown-skinned people speaking out who don't share our politically-progressive far-left ideology!" - which is the very definition of FASCISM - silencing those people who disagree with your own personal narrative!

Adre writes: "It’s not unreasonable to imagine that 20% of the population from a country that participated in slave trade and ownership for hundreds of years is still racist."

1) There was NO United States of America before 1776 - it was the British, French, Spanish, Portugese, & Dutch who brought slavery to our shores. Native American tribes themselves practiced slavery (e.g. the Aztec Empire) - the U.S.A. later fought the bloodiest war in our nation's history to END the practice!

2) In our lifetimes, several Islamic nations have allowed LEGAL slavery! Saudi Arabia didn't end slavery until 1967. There are reports that slavery STILL EXISTS TODAY in certain north African Islamic nations (e.g. Mauritania, Libya, the Sudan, etc.)

phrodeau writes: "I actually think the figure is low, since there are plenty of American racists who don’t support Trump."

There are a LOT MORE Americans supporting Donald Trump today than supported him back in November of 2016, phrodeau. All of those predictions of gloom & doom that met with Trump's election to the presidency never happened. He will be re-elected with a LOT more votes in 2020 than he received four years earlier!

One need only look at the prison populations in America to know there is in actual fact white privilege. Roll out all the dictionary definitions you want, prepare all the word salads you want. I was busted for pot possession many many years ago and got a suspended sentence, probation, then my record was wiped clean. Few, if any, brown people can make that same claim. That there my friend is white privilege.

Modern liberal progressives believe that supporting the United States is racist.

Today's Democratic Party believes that while gay "Pride Parades" are a wonderful thing, celebrating America on the Fourth of July smacks of racism & white privilege! Today's liberals admire & applaud those sports-celebrities who kneel down during our national anthem. Political-progressives think that Nike is awesome for awarding anti-American atheletes (like Megan Rapinoe & Colin Kaepernick) with lucrative shoe-endorsement contracts!

Democratic Party presidential candidates openly despise this country, and then wonder WHY their party has seemingly forever lost the support of the American heartland. Democrats applaud those people who illegally sneak into our country, demanding to be allowed to remain here, and then fly Mexican flags at their protest rallies so that we'll all know that even though they don't want to LIVE there, their allegiance remains with Mexico and NOT with the United States!

Liberals will tell you (with a straight face) that it's PATRIOTIC to hate America. And they wonder how Donald Trump (who LOVES this country) ever got to be president!
