Writing Goal for the Day?

I'm taking a half day of vacation to take delivery of our replacement-in-kind fridge. We've been over a week without a functioning. fridge! DH told me not to let my guard down with the delivery men, which, of course, sent a plot bunny racing thru my head. Hmmm....

I feel your pain. I killed our stove last week (and very nearly myself, as well--there's a reason why they tell you to unplug appliances before attempting to service). The new one didn't make it on the truck this morning, so delivery has been postponed until tomorrow.

10,000 words written today (the last chapter of a habu novella and a short story) and three chapters of a Shabbu novel reviewed. On the road tomorrow.

See that's the kind of thing that makes me envious... time to do all that. Well, I'll have it some day.

I'm trying to write several short storie with one being erotic. I might get 3,000 words typed, only if I stop the interweb searching for hot pictures and looking as the beautiful and sexy women walk into the Starbucks.

Trying to get past the pain in my knee to finish my battle scene. Damn pain keeps breaking my train of thought. lol
I found the emotional impact of the gore, was just as important, if not more, than the gore itself to describe. Brings a better feel to it. ;)

I have a couple of song-inspired stories going in my head and a while ago wrote some notes. I should try to type up some outline/synopses to make it easier when I get there.

Speaking of which, here's a question -- one story will be about a couple trying to get past something big. My first thought is a miscarriage, but I'm not sure that's what I want. It's gut-wrenching, to be sure, but in a way it's an easy out. Any other ideas? I'm looking for something that's not anyone's fault, but that either partner might blame the other for (b/c when bad things happen, we all want someone to blame). Nothing illegal or anything like that, but something that would threaten the marriage/relationship/commitment.

Thanks.

I wrote a poem for the Poets' Hangout, and a story that I've submitted.

That feels better after a long break.

How about a letter from a lawyer, who is acting on the estate of her past lover who has died. Letter holds news that she has to decide to act on or not.

Bankruptcy, foreclosure, loss of job, business failure, affair, health scare, debilitating illness, drug addiction, alcohol-related accident or arrest, sudden appearance of unknown love child, just to name a few.

Possible, but I'm not sure it would quite fit. I think the story will start out with the couple at the cross-roads. Thanks, though.

Thanks. These are good possibilities. I do think some kind of health scare may work best. Like I said, I'm looking for something that is neutral in the sense of it being out of their control. So I don't think something like an affair would work; that's the fault of the person who engages in it and blame can rightly be placed.

But these all have potential.

Misread mamogram or pre-cancerous cells found during yeary mamogram.

Arrest for something serious that the arrestee didn't commit?

See that's the kind of thing that makes me envious... time to do all that. Well, I'll have it some day.

Retirement and no little ones running around the house tend to amp up productivity.

My goal is to finish the 1st draft of my latest incest tale which was going to be my winter contest entry. I shelved it because I wanted to make a point to some dink who has been e-mailing me that I couldn't score a 4.5+ unless it was incest so I went with the fetish story.

All things considered, seeing how well Dark, reject reality, and silk stocking lovers incest stories did in the contest I should not have caved to the "oh yeah?" mentality. Oh well, you live, you learn.

On the plus side my fetish story is holding at a 4.61 and they have not done the sweep yet. So let's see if my little friend (who's one bomb I'm sure the sweep will remove) e-mails me back.

Arrest for something serious that the arrestee didn't commit?

Interesting idea but not quite what I had in mind. I know I haven't given much context for it, so I hope it doesn't sound like I'm rejecting things out of hand. I'm not. All of the suggestions have merit, but I'm looking for a certain angle and some of these will not permit that angle. But that's okay -- can always file things away for future reference. :)

There will be an element of lost trust, though, and many of the suggestions do encompass that.

Well, yes, but I can still be envious. ;)

Envious of the time? Yes, but if the price of that time is old age, I'll continue to survive on sleep deprivation to get things done.

And although I have told you many times, I do not miss my kids being little, at least little ones don;t bring home a guy with a swastika tattooed on his neck who referred to my wife as being "kinda hot for her age"

And no, I was not home when my daughter brought this little gem over. That was my wife's report.

Maybe potty training wasn't so bad after all.

Ahhh, I just posted what my score was and I just received a one bomb! Oh, that is too classic! Like I didn't already know who it was! Priceless, just priceless.

Jealousy really is an ugly emotion.

Mastectomy, hysterectomy, botched plastic surgery, stroke, lyme disease, back injury, addiction to pain medication, bi-polar disorder, depression.

Death/illness of a child, if you can stomach it.

I'm a bit biased here, but I don't see a miscarriage as leading to this:

There will be an element of lost trust, though, and many of the suggestions do encompass that.

Because if a partner dared blame me for a miscarriage, it would be damn near unforgivable. Why would I want to re-build a relationship with someone like that?

I like soflabbwlvr's financial ideas. Money can be stressful, and I don't think blaming bad investments on the other person is as nasty as blaming death on the other. Personally, I'd like a housing renovation gone sour (like Mr. Blandings Builds his Dream House, which I think also had a side story about her ex), but that might just be because year six of our renovations is beginning to grate, lol.

And with that, I'm off to paint some trim. Sigh.

Hubby didn't put the money into the account for the downpayment, but gambled it instead and lost it. He lied and was found out.

Well, yes, but it's more complicated than that. Believe me, I know where you're coming from. But people do get angry and they grieve and they look for people to blame. This is one reason that I wanted something else -- that this is such a heartbreaking situation.

And maybe it's less a matter of trust than of just sorrow and miscommunication. On the other hand, that is the kind of thing that's beyond someone's control, which is primarily what I want.

Ack -- renovations. :) I'd actually like some but can't afford them, but I'm sure I'll bitch when it comes time.

I may (have to) change, but right now, I want a problem that caused a rift between the couple, but a problem that was not either person's fault. That maybe hard to come by, so someone may have to be at fault. We shall see.

So is Mr. Blanding's Dream House a better or worse situation than The Money Pit? ;)

Haha, I have that idea squirreled away for another story that I started a long time ago but haven't finished. ;) No, that won't work for this one. Thanks, though.

Here's a twist, one spouse's company is taking over the other's and one of them is going to have to go. No one's fault, but it puts them in a position. One starts quietly dropping hints that they are better than the other and word gets back.

Thanks, but that won't quite work for following along with the song I'm using. Also, I don't want them actively working against each other. It's about rebuilding, finding a way to start over.

Interesting idea, though.

It's funny, we've come to agree that the never-ending renovations are neither of our faults, yet we go through periods where we blame the other, and then periods where we blame ourselves. Mr. Tat didn't want to spend a lot of money; I wanted an old house. Put the two together, and voila! You've got yourself a fixer-upper, with major arguments over how, exactly, we should fix it (read: do the work ourselves or hire someone).

As for Mr. Blandings . . . the original has Myrna Loy. By default, it wins. Even if she weren't in it, though, it is much, much better (even though it has some not-so-awesome 1940s racial stuff). Have you never seen it, PL? It was on constant rotation in my house growing up.
