I keep looking at my chapter and thinking I'm going to have to change the scene I open with, which is a shame b/c I like it and think it's funny... but sometimes you have to make the cut... Perhaps I can figure out a way to tweak it but keep it in...

Just now got the reviewed/cleaned text of a Shabbu novel off to the publisher and managed to get off all of the background docs required for a book festival I'm taking a mainstream novel to in the spring. On now to doing the initial review on a habu novella I'd like to jam into the post-Christmas launch. Publishers are trying to maximize launches for the period between Christmas and New Years to take advantage of folks getting readers for Christmas and then shopping immediately for content.

Well my plans on finishing my latest fell through last night. I had a little too much spiked egg nog at the Christmas party, and as I sat trying to write I ended up getting sucked into goofing around on a thread most of the night with a couple of the AH's resident floozies.

My goal is to continue on R&B despite a comment today on Ch 5 that said it was dull. Oh, the horror, the horror... right, okay, done with that. Can't please everyone and that's the only negative I've had so far, and they were very nice about it. However, Mr Penn needs to go out and do a little shopping, which will not allow for much writing as I'll be home with the kids. Sigh.

Otherwise I'm thinking I may outline a story or two and egads, there's editing to do.

I'm thinking of writing something today, finally. No baking planned, that can happen more next week, and it is snowing right now, so I'm not fond of driving in that stuff - even if I have 4WD, so today sounds like a good day to write. I'm not happy with one story at all, so I'm going to pitch it and either table the idea or start over, most likely table it.

I had an idea pop up last night while watching the high school band performance and there are some other ones that are trying to nudge their way to the forefront. We'll see what happens and who wins.

Finished BLOOD MERIDIAN by Cormac McCarthy.

Its not a story, its a strange report filled with violence and insanity Stephen King couldnt dream in fevered sleep. But every event and action is plausible, and none of it is new under the Sun. People do all of it, all the time.

The book comes with two major strengths: I cant name any source that does a better job of demonstrating SHOWING vs TELLING. From the imbecile dwarf who sits in a nasty cage eating turds, to the player who shoots and drowns puppies. You get the idea, as you read how a character murders and scalps a toddler, that he aint Mister Rogers.

The 2nd major strength is description. McCarthy uses finely honed description to add an edge to the horror he creates. His descriptions are like beacons that locate the carnage and insanity within a haunted house on a dark and stormy night.

Did a read through of the last 5 ch's and made some changes to the flow. Once I did, I came up with 3 ways the story could go. I have the ending in place already, so now I have to sort through the 3 and see which one gets me there the best.

I'm going to go through some of my older stories next week and do some preliminary notes on re-writes. I can see where I lacked in areas that could have made the story better than it was, so I want to do them some justice. 5 years old and they are still being added to fave Author/story lists, so they deserve some polishing.

Decided to start from scratch on R&B9, based on a chat w/Mr. Penn and some consideration of reader feedback. We'll have to see if it works. However, since I was at a bit of a standstill, it can't hurt to try something new.

Also, might make peanut butter cookie w/the kids as Mr Penn needs to do a little shopping.
