Why I've got a problem with Bush's America...

OK, so he wasn't a Rhodes scholar. So what? Many of our Presidents haven't been from the cream of the crop, so to speak. Harry S Truman never went to college. John F. Kennedy was considered a playboy creampuff by many of his colleagues in the Senate. And so on.

But at the same time, debating his intellectual worth has no bearing on the choices he's making as President. If people want to argue those, let them, but remember: one of the reasons he was elected is because so many people considered him a moron that he didn't have to climb a high hurdle to achieve legitimacy in many voters' eyes.

You mean Medal of Honor and Pulitzer winner Jack Kennedy?

I agree completely with your second paragraph. It's my point. He's not a tremendously bright bulb, but that doesn't make him more or less of a president on it's own. But because republicans can't own up to that fact it's become a point of contention.

Unfortunatly he combines not being a very smart man with not being a very good man. C'est la vie.

Kennedy is different...

Because he was a Democrat, he is exempt from any critique that would tarnish his godhood. Never mind that weasel would have been impeached eventually for all the criminal interactions he got for the 1960 election.
Never mind his daddy using all his illegal influence to secure a ruling family in the US presidency from John the Chaser to Teddy the Wet.
Never mind that he initiated escalation into Vietnam, that he initiated the CIA program of assasination of the South Vietnamese leader, and Castro. (Nixon got us out of Vietnam)
Never mind that he was continually on drugs for his physical ailments which clouded his judgements.
I'd like to know from the intellectual flatliners out there, what is the difference between the Clinton invasion of Haiti and Somalia, the high altitude bombing of Serb cities (killing 2000 civilians), and the great pill factory cruise missle debacle, and the now proposed invasion of Iraq? Where we're the protests for this "misuse of a superpower" then?
Where was the "no blood for oil" crowds then?

Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. :D

This is not only bull manure but it is factually wrong . . .

Tricky Dicky NIXON had to resign to prevent himself being impeached for the Watergate Affair . . .

America LOST THE VIETNAM WAR!!! . . . BEATEN by Ho Chi Min and the NVA . . . the OSS had supported Ho Chi Min against the French, then turned on him for being successful . . . sounds like the same U$ startegy being used with Saddam Hussein . . . :)

Thank you CBM for standing up for me. I do agree that I need to be much more concrete to post in these political threads.

I am not a very concrete person in that sense. I can look up statistics on the internet as well as most. I look for many different sides to issues, usually not in the American press.

I think the comment that was ignored was being a slave here in the USA. We are told we have choices. We do but only in a very limited context.

Boys went to Viet Nam and died. 18-22 years old. Limited life experience. Idealistic, they still had a passion for outrage. They did not want to go and die. They were drafted: slaves to the leaders of their country who made very bad choices.

A woman I work with has a son in the service. He was to be out last spring. He's not getting out. They won't let him.

What are we sending our children in to do? Kill who for what? Bush and his politcal machine have us as slaves. Billions of dollars are being spent on this war on terrorism and people here at home are hungry.

We are forced to deal with edicts by the Federal Government on how we have to do things and then are not given funding, from the taxes we pay, to implement them.

Just because we are well cared for doesn't mean we are not slaves to our govenment.

I don't like it and Bush is shoving it in my face.

That is my point.

Well said, ksmybuttons . . . TOO MANY good people didn't come home from Vietnam . . . and far too many who made it home, were addicted to heroin and other illegal substances, and spiritually broken . . . for what?? . . . the CIA getting control of the Golden Triangle?? . . . Ho Chi Min and the NVA won, the NE militsry-industrial complex won by making huge corporate profits supplying arms . . . and the American people paid twice, once in blood, the other time is a stuffed U$ economy . . .

This U$-Iraq War for Control of Undeveloped MIddle East Oil Reserves is WRONG BY ANY ASSESSMENT!!!

Oz joins the February 14 March Against Dubyah Shrub by marching on February 15 ('cos we are ahead of European time zones) and there will be a lot of people marching . . . :)

Even if he was legacied???? Then you explain how a student with his High School grades and SAT's gets into one of the most prestigious schools in the country.

The rest of your post is similarly absurd. Yale isn't above bending the rules of admission for legacies but they absolutely draw the line at bending them for students in the school. Sure. Are the skies a pretty, pretty pink in your world.

As to the National Guard issue, he bumped the line and ducked service in the actual war. Arguing this point is ridiculous. You obviously have a hard time facing the truth.

Dude. I'm not arguing anything. Youre squealing like a stuck pig. You have no idea what you're talking about. Millions - yes millions - served in the reserves during the sixties to deliberately avoid going to Vietnam. It wasn't illegal.

Nobody cares. Find something important to scream about.

You know very well that she meant that he had neither a majority nor a plurality of the votes cast. Additionally, it isn't clear if he even won the vote of the electoral college. His brother the Governor of FLA. and his Daddy's Supreme court conspired to circumvent the constitution (which all Bush's are enemies thereof) and install that blithering idiot as president, in what amounted to a coup d'etat.

Bull shit and you know it! If the fucking Dems were so hot and the people were so outraged, why didn't the dims do better during the mid term elections?

I can't wait for my tax cut.

Mmm, maybe so. I can agree there's room for all sorts of opinions out here but certain peoples ideas of "facts" bugs me all over. Facts are simple and simple people use them the way people who defend Bush's past use them.

He is not a very accomplished man. It's a basic, hard truth. And because his defenders can't let a basic and largely irrelevent fact like this go it's what the debate over the man and his policies has become.

Ohh SH*T!! Stop toe tappin' around, Weevil . . . Dubyah Shrub is an alcoholic-in-remission who may have had a heavy cocaine problem (does that sort of problem ever go away?) with a rich Daddy who sanitised the FBI files after the death of J Edgar "CrossDressing Poofta" Hoover the blackmailer extraorinaire; Daddy, who ran the CIA, and who wanted to be President for Ever and Ever . . . hence the Bush Family Dynasty guarantees him another three terms controlling the White House (One more Dubyah then two for Jeb . . . well, you gotta keep it in the family, haven't you . . .) :)

Weevil, to my knowledge Kennedy never won the Congressional Medal of Honor, however he was awarded the Marine and Navy medal for gallantry in action for the PT 109 incident.

Sure I do. read my response to Mr. Mouse. I could care less about his time in the national guard if it weren't for:

1) His bumping the line
2) His trying to play it up as anything other than trying to avoid time in Vietnam.

combine the two and you have the King of the chickenhawks.

And if you don't care, don't read the thread. There've been 90 some odd posts here and because you've whined and bitched yourself into a corner you want to play the disassociated cool guy??? Good luck.

But if you do want to reply, then just explain your theory that Yale would bend admissions standards but suddenly draw the line when he's a student.

I can't wait for my tax cut.

That tax cut comes with a deficit. What Republican makes a tax cut and runs the deficit up at the same time? Not something they can really blame on someone else when they control the purse strings.

Someone will pay for the tax cut. Probably all Americans in their old age.

Get real, dude. These are politicians and they are masters at suckering the masses to ensure their party is in control. They do what they have to do for the team.

You can do whatever you want. I think most people would respond to you better if you just write simple, understandable sentences and cut out all the nonsense.

Dozens of emoticons and endless lines of nothing but punctuation are only cute for a few posts.
