I agree completely with your second paragraph. It's my point. He's not a tremendously bright bulb, but that doesn't make him more or less of a president on it's own. But because republicans can't own up to that fact it's become a point of contention.
Unfortunatly he combines not being a very smart man with not being a very good man. C'est la vie.

But at the same time, debating his intellectual worth has no bearing on the choices he's making as President. If people want to argue those, let them, but remember: one of the reasons he was elected is because so many people considered him a moron that he didn't have to climb a high hurdle to achieve legitimacy in many voters' eyes.
