Why I've got a problem with Bush's America...

Presidents rarely get a majority vote. For example, Clinton was elected President in 1992 with 43 percent of the vote.

You know very well that she meant that he had neither a majority nor a plurality of the votes cast. Additionally, it isn't clear if he even won the vote of the electoral college. His brother the Governor of FLA. and his Daddy's Supreme court conspired to circumvent the constitution (which all Bush's are enemies thereof) and install that blithering idiot as president, in what amounted to a coup d'etat.

The popular vote doesn't mean shit. How many times did you see either Bush or Gore campaigning in New York or Texas? The strategy is to win states, not votes. Maybe you should read the constitution before they take your GED away.

How did they circumvent the Constitution?

Dubya received a bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1968, then served as an F-102 fighter pilot in the Texas Air National Guard. President Bush received a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1975. After graduating, he moved back to Midland and began a career in the energy business. After working on his father's successful 1988 presidential campaign, he assembled the group of partners that purchased the Texas Rangers baseball franchise in 1989.

He served as managing general partner of the Texas Rangers until he was elected Governor on November 8, 1994, with 53.5 percent of the vote.
He became the first Governor in Texas history to be elected to consecutive four-year terms when he was re-elected on November 3, 1998, with 68.6 percent of the vote.

He went to Havard because he couldn't get into University of Texas Law School. Now ask yourself, just how stupid does a rich, White, male, politically powerful texan have to be in order to be turned down by the University of Texas? Also, it should be obvious to even a disinterested party that anyone who couldn't cut it at The Univ. of Texas, couldn't cut it at Havard and Yale. That is unless you're an extremely WASPy blue-blood whose super-rich family is heavily associated with Skull and Bones.

George W. enlists in the 147th Fighter Group with the Texas Air National Guard. When asked why he wanted to enlist George replied, "I want to be a fighter pilot because my father was." His unit was referred to as the "Champagne Unit" because it included the sons of future Senator Lloyd Bentsen and Governor John Connally.

These Rich Texas Frat-boys never got near Vietnam. They just flew around defending the skies of Texas ... from what, I don't know. Incidentally idiot Bush scored only 20% on his pilot aptitude test ... but having a rich congressman for a daddy got him bumped to the head of the line. So, Bush got to spend Vietnam in a National Guard unit that kept him from even leaving the state of Texas ... All the while his bitch of a father George Sr. was fully supporting the Vietnam war and the thousands upon thousands of Americans that lost their lives in that pointless war ... I guess they didn't have rich daddies.

By the by, if that's you in your AV, then you're every bit the little pencil-neck pansy that I'd imagined you to be.

You left out a few things, like the facts.

I'll let you off the hook on the test score. The rest of your post is pure garbage, as usual.

By your own admission you said the Vietnam War was "pointless" and a waste of thousands of lives.

Why wouldn't someone join the Reserves to avoid being killed in a pointless war?

By the way, you never told me how the Supreme Court circumvented the Constitution. That's okay. We know you don't have an answer.

It's called the pp_man syndrome.

No Plans

The war against Iraq is not a wise choice if there is no plan for withdrawal afterwards. Will the U.S. ever be able to leave Afghanistan? Hell, they still have 110,000 troops in Europe and the war ended in 1945 and the cold war ended in what? 1992? Yeesh. The only reason they left the Phillipines is because of a volcano.

It is wasteful and lacks foresight when you get into things with no plans for getting out.

Now that's a neat little double feint...

So now George is clever because he avoided a pointless war which his dad was organising...

The whole fucking family's bent...

By the way, you never told me how the Supreme Court circumvented the Constitution. That's okay. We know you don't have an answer.

And you expect a private citizen to know how those in power manipulate that power?

Not a very bright leading question...

No wonder you're in the Bush camp...

The same sort of low level, transparant cunning...[/B]

Thank you CBM for standing up for me. I do agree that I need to be much more concrete to post in these political threads.

I am not a very concrete person in that sense. I can look up statistics on the internet as well as most. I look for many different sides to issues, usually not in the American press.

I think the comment that was ignored was being a slave here in the USA. We are told we have choices. We do but only in a very limited context.

Boys went to Viet Nam and died. 18-22 years old. Limited life experience. Idealistic, they still had a passion for outrage. They did not want to go and die. They were drafted: slaves to the leaders of their country who made very bad choices.

A woman I work with has a son in the service. He was to be out last spring. He's not getting out. They won't let him.

What are we sending our children in to do? Kill who for what? Bush and his politcal machine have us as slaves. Billions of dollars are being spent on this war on terrorism and people here at home are hungry.

We are forced to deal with edicts by the Federal Government on how we have to do things and then are not given funding, from the taxes we pay, to implement them.

Just because we are well cared for doesn't mean we are not slaves to our govenment.

I don't like it and Bush is shoving it in my face.

That is my point.

Even if he had been legacied into Yale, that's hardly enough to keep him there. Then there's that pesky graduate degree from Harvard. You know - that community college in Boston.

Millions of people fulfilled their military obligation by serving six years in the National Guard and Reserves, something you obviously know nothing about.

You have him confused with his predecessor.

Even if he was legacied???? Then you explain how a student with his High School grades and SAT's gets into one of the most prestigious schools in the country.

The rest of your post is similarly absurd. Yale isn't above bending the rules of admission for legacies but they absolutely draw the line at bending them for students in the school. Sure. Are the skies a pretty, pretty pink in your world.

As to the National Guard issue, he bumped the line and ducked service in the actual war. Arguing this point is ridiculous. You obviously have a hard time facing the truth.

Weevil,

Shut the fuck up on criticizing Bush for joining the National Guard. You have lampooned everyone who was even remotely involved in Vietnam, whether drafted or a Four Star General. You have absolutely no right to talk on this particular issue. Keep your comments to other Bush fuck-ups.

Thank you.

I legitimately could careless what he did with himself during the vietnam era. It's the bullshit I object to, not the faux military service.

Mmm, maybe so. I can agree there's room for all sorts of opinions out here but certain peoples ideas of "facts" bugs me all over. Facts are simple and simple people use them the way people who defend Bush's past use them.

He is not a very accomplished man. It's a basic, hard truth. And because his defenders can't let a basic and largely irrelevent fact like this go it's what the debate over the man and his policies has become.
OK, so he wasn't a Rhodes scholar. So what? Many of our Presidents haven't been from the cream of the crop, so to speak. Harry S Truman never went to college. John F. Kennedy was considered a playboy creampuff by many of his colleagues in the Senate. And so on.

But at the same time, debating his intellectual worth has no bearing on the choices he's making as President. If people want to argue those, let them, but remember: one of the reasons he was elected is because so many people considered him a moron that he didn't have to climb a high hurdle to achieve legitimacy in many voters' eyes.

Call him stupid at your own expense.
