I guess it takes a special kind of person who can interview stars and not impose themselves upon them.
It has resulted in a couple of very embarrassing moments when a cocky chart show presenter thought he could get the better of the star...

Adam Curry for example couldn't help but to make a degrading remark at Grace Jones and although in a language she didn't understand, she quickly caught on.
But let's talk about the people who get it right, the ones who treat the stars with respect. And I'll start with Bram Van Splunteren of VPRO television.
Now while Van Splunteren might not be a familiar name and his face won't ring any bells either, his interviews have since become stuff of legend. He's probably best known for THIS interview with John Fusciante in 1994 who back then was living as a recluse and was severely strung out.

He also interviewed Dave Grohl during the Foo Fighters' first European tour, the interview is memorable since Grohl is completely at ease and no questions about Kurt Cobain's death were asked. Of course the fact that Dave was familiar with Van Splunteren also helped matters: Van Splunteren had interviewed Dave and Krist Novoselic during Nirvana's "Nevermind" European tour where they played the Paradiso in Amsterdam.

And he interviewed both gents 20 years later where he also showed them the old footage and had them reflect on who they were back then and how that show was.
And then there were tibits, jam sessions and goofs.

The Late Hillel Slovak explaining his gear.

Flea demonstrating the difference between hardcore and the Peppers' music.
And to close it all off, here's probably the best version of "Under the bridge"
