I have the most painful sunburn on my shoulders and back. Is there anything I should be putting on it? Anything to soothe it? Taking a warm shower just about kills me.

Banana Boat....

makes a wonderful aloe gel--it seems to inhibit peeling even on a bad burn...and I can sympathize because I'm very fair and prone to burning. I found this stuff at my local WalMart....and if you put it in the fridge it feels even more soothing when you put it on....hope this helps.

Aloe and vitamin E cream is what they use in the burn clinic. Wearing a clean white t shirt and avoiding perfumed lotions will help too. Taking advil or other NSAID will help too. Just drink plenty of water too. Sorry those are really painful burns.

The Aloe Gel Is GREAT!

Poor Myst:(

Go And Have A Cool Shower then when you get out DON"T Dry Yerself Off Really Just Start Slathering The Aloe On. When You Have Covered Yerself With The Moisterizer take a clean sheet and wrap it all around The Affected Areas and leave it on for about half an Hour!

You Should Do It Til The Red Starts To Turn and hurts no longer:) Your Bod Will Just Love Ya!

Aloe and... Sunscreen!

Aloe is a wonder substance for burns - the plants are cheap and hardy, and you tear off a leaf when you need some. PLUS: Your pretty flesh will get skin cancer at this rate, so take care! There isn't much sky/ozone protection left....

the aloe is a great idea... if it's really bad, brew some tea and have someone put the tea bags on it (sounds strange, but it really helps) and roll them around on it, and after a cold shower (just so you're not in the shower all the time) soak towels in cold water and wrap yourself in those.

and above all else, wear cotton... anything else will make it hurt like you wouldnt believe

okay, I'm going to run some errands, and I'm going to go pick up a bunch of things you guys have recommended.

Thank you all so very much!

Orajel, Bactine, Preperation H, Bikini Zone...anything that has Benzocaine or Lidocaine in it. That will numb it and then you can moisturize it. Feel better.

I have had 1 or 2 serious sunburns on my back & I have to go with the tea...I actually make a strong brew put ice in it and soak a hand towel . Then I just wring it out and lay it across my back..it feels soooo good and seems to cool it longer than anything else. Aloe always makes mine worse.

Hey, aloe is king. But you should get something like solarcaine...Honest, it numbs it and makes your skin cool off. Also, (Ive done this) Take a bath with vinegar in it. So you smell like a pickle for a few days, but hey..you will feel better!!!!!

Don't you know Twinkies are allergic to sun???

Here is a burn ointment that works to actually heal the burn, and not just soothe it.

F.O.I.L.E. Burn Ointment. It stinks and it greasy but can really help it heal. You can get it in any Pharmacy. It also reduces peeling, even though it won't prevent it completely.

Oh, and if you are going with herbal...

Try a poultice of Comfrey. It is used traditionally for cuts, in which it has great healing abilities, but it can help heal over a burn too, very quickly.

Now that Weird Harold, is something I have never seen around here. But its a good idea. Next year Im talking to the reps about getting it.

Actually, it just happened to be the only Solarcaine they had the day I went looking for some. I prefer the spray Solarcaine when I can find it because you don't actually have to touch the sunburn to numb it.

This Aloe formula is good stuff though, because I haven't peeled at all when I've used it.

The spray..god, yes, love the spray. Just try not to inhale it too deeply whilst spraying. Ever get high off that shit? Make you sneeze too.....

I hope yours is not sever to the point of being sun poisoning....... I had that once and a navy doctor told me to soak in a room temperature bath liberally laced with plain white vinegar...... it will soothe away the pain and then afterwards use plenty of aloe. And I do mean plenty of aloe too..............oh yeah, avoid any type of scratchy clothing........... a soft plain white t-shirt and cotton undies work best.........................

be prepared to peel...................... sorry ya feel bad!

bad sunburn?

use Avon bath oil or use their Aloe product.

if you dont have Avon products handy, use vinegar on the sun burn. it should take the sting away for you.
