What makes a story a “stroker”?

Hmmmmm.... okay, this probably gonna get me cut down but here goes;
I joined Lit in 2019. I joined with the sole intention of coming here to read "stories with sex". I get easily ultra bored with vids and "photo shoots". It wasn't until nine months back that I first submitted a piece.

I came here to read and what I found to read were two very different styles of story.

1- SEX, SEX and nothing but SEX. Um, no, not really thanks. I'm sure they're very good for their genre but not for my entertainment.

2- Stories with strong plot, good characters and settings with sex thrown in as a treat. Way more my style but, as far as it goes, no stroking. I have my imagination and past experiences for that.

Does that make me a "stroker virgin" here? ROFL, should I intervene urgently?

I think you will find that many on AH want to believe we are writing your second type. And often look down on writing the first type. As you say, it has its place. You will fit right in,

I have to disagree with you guys, a bit. I do believe a good story and a great sex scene are possible. I will admit that sort of story can take 5K words or a lot more. But I've read many a great stroke story on here, to send me off to dreamland. Sometimes you want to read sci-fi. Sometimes a murder mystery. Sometimes a lovely explicit romance. And, sometimes, a quick stroke, cum, and kiss good night.

I absolutely agree with you. My most recent Romance had a very good sex scene. And most the original stories had a lot of very explicit sex that I think is generally pretty hot. But they were definitely very character driven.

I was taking the first type in the original post as sex with no pretext of plot or character. There is certainly more than a little of that on the site, but most of the authors in AH think of themselves as above that.

That said, as a reader I will always choose a good story with strong characters and little sex over a story with lots of sex and weak characters. So that is what I want to write.
