Thank you for actually trying to address the OP. I specified Trump dying to take the issue of anti-Trump conservatives vs. MAGA off the table.

You say "The party will then gradually return to normal", so I have to ask:

What is "normal" for the Republican Party? What policies will the party have once Trump is gone?

Generally more limited government than the Democrats would propose.

Now that Roe has been tossed back to the states (where it Constitutionally belongs as RBG once confirmed) there will be more internal party struggles over that with my guess the results varying by state. Some of the more restrictive laws will be modified to make it easier in instances of life or health of the mother.

Support for Israel will be just as strong if not stronger. Support for Ukraine not as strong.

Stronger border security will be across the board.

There will be unanimous support for cutting the budgets and reducing the debt as a overall issue but with deep divisions on which programs to cut and how much.

A more simplified tax code will be proposed that will help some and not others, but nothing as sweeping as Reagan's early 80's cuts. (added after original post)

So really not a whole lot different than before Trump.

That's a pretty obtuse observation but it does speak to your lack of awareness and foresight. The Republican party is in transformation. If Trump is elected and allowed to serve and get out of it alive, the party will be different, bigger, stronger, and more conservative and populist.

The present-day Marxism of the Democrat Party will see it dwindle in strength and appeal to the working people of America. Democrats won't go down without trying to bring the country down with it, but in the end, they will be forced to evolve in the face of new realities. Working people who love their country and their freedom are not going to go gently into the night.

Almost everything you’ve said comes across as rational and well reasoned conservatism except for the fact that your words and hopes for the Republican Party don’t actually line up their past nor current actions.

Nobody can predict what happens to the Republican Party when Trump is gone, but the question is equally relevant for the Democratic Party.

It’s utterly amazing that with less than 11 months before Election Day, Trump is the betting odds favorite to win in 2024. People who follow my posts here will recall that I thought the GOP was done with Trump not so long ago.

Yet here he is, leading in nearly all national polls and leading by even greater margins in the most recent battleground states.

Who to thank or blame? Where to start?

Plenty of credit to spread around. Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary and her pals at Fusion GPS, the J6 Committee, overzealous prosecutors, and a compliant pack of lemmings in the corporate media and pundits have made him a martyr. The geniuses that have doubted down on an 81 year old president who the public sees as mentally and physically not up for the job deserve credit as well.

Both parties are a mess right now and the only thing we can say with certainty is that both will look very different in 2028.

I offered an opinion on the future that I think is a reasonable prediction on the future of the GOP, but I agree with much of the rest of this, especially about the part about many viewing the Trump attacks as purely partisan (which I dont btw). I do not however think Trump really has a chance when those indictments start turning into trials and convictions. I just do not think that a majority of the American public wants that kind of chaos and uncertainty.
But they also don't want someone with ever more severe dementia occupying the Oval Office. Nor does the party hierarchy want the inevitable food fight if Biden were to announce now that he's not going to accept the nomination. That's why the only thing that makes sense to me is him waiting for the convention to announce (surprise surprise) that he's not accepting the nomination (after being threatened with a very realistic 25th Amendment call).

The never trumpers, anti whatever you want to call them are not in power, are being led out of congress, and are scared.
Excerpts from Liz Cheyney’s book tells of congressmen lamenting the things they do for “Orange Jesus” and Romney’s book tells of outright fear of trump reprisals.

This is a key point. Unlike Lit, The polling firms that are running all these polls are not just surveying Trump loyalists. They try to get representative samples of likely voters. The techniques differ, and some are no doubt more accurate than others, but we’re seeing consistent results across nearly all the most reputable firms in the business.

The irony is the various indictments have actually correlated with Trump’s lead widening. The impact of today’s Colorado ruling will be fascinating to watch.

Only because the people who invaded the Capitol didn't get their hands on the congresspeople and messed around instead, while Trump was fighting with secret service personnel who were trying to restrain him. As a result, the congresspeople managed to smuggle themselves out of the building, waited it out, and came back later in the day to certify the 2020 presidential election results. Then they breathed a huge sigh of relief. Trump then was basically banned from social media, as I recall.

If the people who invaded the Capitol had made straight for the congresspeople with a single-mindedness, with intent to harm or worse, Trump calls it a national emergency, and the 2020 presidential election doesn't get certified. Trump really should have been with them, in the background, or even leading the charge (like Caesar did in Rome in 49 BC), but Trump wanted to be back at the White House to do the national emergency bit. The secret service agents were struggling to hold Trump back. They sensed the danger.
