What happens to the Republican Party when Donald Trump dies?

The trend favors independents. Gallup polling shows that in 2004, adults who identified as Democrats represented 35%, Republicans 33%, and independents at 31%. Today the GOP and Democrats are tied at 25%, with adults who identify as independent represent a whopping 49%.

https://www.axios.com/2023/04/17/poll-americans-independent-republican-democrat

Numbers don't lie. 25% of respondents to the poll are R's, ie conservatives.

That leaves 75% to be "non" conservatives. You can label them D's if you want, or "fence sitters" when you're talking about I's, but the FACT is, 75% of the people responding to the poll aren't conservatives.

Conservatives are outnumbered. Eventually the US will burn because of the liberal policies of those who either actively seek to destroy it, or those who are indifferent to their own societal futures.

The portrait you paint of conservatism being about freedom and self-reliance is at odds with reality. Conservatives ban books. They won’t let women make their own healthcare choices. They love government subsidies for private cars. They want everyone to say Christian prayers and observe Christian holidays. They won’t let gay and trans people just live their lives in peace.

They want draconian rules for everyone else, while they do whatever they want with impunity.

Name one book that has been "banned" by conservatives.

Here let me help your lack of understanding by quoting the headline from your linky, with some emphasis:

Florida school districts removed roughly 300 books last school year

"Removed" isn't "banned." Oopsies.

Then there's the UNDENIABLE FACT that the books are still available. See, for example:

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Beloved+...ode=qs&sourceid=Mozilla-search&tag=mozilla-20

Which means that the books aren't actually "banned" by anyone.

Which also means you're not only a liar, but an idiot.

January 6 2021. I explained the whole process of how Trump could have become America's Caesar that day, and how close it was to happening. Had congresspeople been harmed or worse that day before the 2020 presidential election results had been certified, Trump could have declared a national emergency and stayed in power until new elections. It would have been as if the 2020 election results had never happened, never official.
But he didn't do that.

But he didn't do that.

We know for a fact what Trump did and didn't do. There were no new wars started under his administration. The riots were left for the States to handle rather than Trump declaring Martial Law and sending in the NG to quell them. Trump built a fence to try and keep the invading illegals out and negotiated a deal with Mexico to have them keep those seeking entrance into the US while their claims were being evaluated.

So, basically we have a historical record of Trump not doing anything to imprison or kill or attack anyone or any country yet the numbnuts on the Left insist that he's a dictator.

Meanwhile under Joe, we had people getting fired for exercising their right to not get vaccinated, going to jail for years without being charged merely for attending a rally in DC, collusion with social media to violate the 1st Amendment Rights of American's, and so on. Yet Joe isn't the dictator despite all of that oppression, it's Trump who didn't do anything.

The only possible explanation is that the Left is mentally ill and delusional. Which, given their opinions on most everything, is irrefutable.

But he didn't do that.

That ^ is treason.

Treason only has 1 definition in the US. That ain't it.

Which means that whatever your opinion is, it's based on a lie.

Which means that your opinion is worthless.

Have a great day.

Wow. You've got the twisted talking points down pat. Well done!

We also know that Democrats accuse their political opponents of what they are doing. So when they call Trump Hitler we know it's because they want to misdirect the actions of Joe Biden that resemble those of the crazed goose-stepping tyrant.

What specific policy did Biden enact that reflect those of Hitler? Feel free to provide the policy along with the policy that Hitler enacted.

He’s an old man, and years of living a playboy lifestyle have taken their toll. He probably doesn’t have much longer left.

But the Republican Party doesn’t seem to stand for anything except devotion to him. So what happens after Trump’s gone? Who assumes the mantle of leadership, and what policies will they run on?
You have no idea how wrong you are about the GOP.

Yes he may win the nomination but that is only because the anti Trump half of the party is split.

Im sure you would love to believe that the GOP is just a bunch of Trumpers, but you only lie to yourself when you do so. There is a very strong anti Trump sentiment quite apart from the Mitt Romney wing of the party, but it remains to be seen if the two sides can unite in time under ONE candidate to save the nomination. My guess is they wont.

So what happens?

Well this depends a great deal on the outcome of the 91 indictments. He cant beat them ALL. I honestly believe he's headed to prison with a smaller possibility of plea bargaining his way out of jail by withdrawing from the race. That would be a logical solution but not very likely given Trump's narcissism nor the vengeance in the heart of the Democrat DOJ. But the question of timing of the outcomes of these trials is critical. I don't think the American voting public wants all this uncertainty and drama, which is why I'm predicting a landslide election for the Democrat nominee. After that, if he isn't in prison already he will be soon.

Does THAT qualify as gone? For all practical purposes yes. Given his age and health and the catastrophic effect on his ego, he'll most likely die in prison or shortly thereafter.

The party will then gradually return to normal.

Yes there will be some Trump wannabes, just like some tried to assume the Reagan mantle, but failed. (While Reagan & Trump are polar opposites in personality, policy and temperament they were profoundly unique in their ability to communicate)

Trump's popularity runs deep, but it is also be narrow and will narrow more and more as he spends his inevitable time in prison and then death. What's left of his following will shrink more and more into irrelevance every year.

But right now, there's also the question if Biden can hold up through a whole election cycle. Clearly he's going to never agree to a debate which will only fuel more of the talk about his ever growing dementia.

Even though Trump is the ONLY GOP candidate that would lose to Biden, the polling is just close enough to scare the Democrats into making a change. I personally believe that Biden will announce at the convention that he is not going to accept the nomination (under threat by the Party of invoking the 25th Amendment) and at that time endorse Newsom (bypassing Kamala for obvious reasons). There will be a big kerfuffle over it for a few weeks but the media will portray it as sensible solution to an "unexpected" announcement.

Thank you for actually trying to address the OP. I specified Trump dying to take the issue of anti-Trump conservatives vs. MAGA off the table.

You say "The party will then gradually return to normal", so I have to ask:

What is "normal" for the Republican Party? What policies will the party have once Trump is gone?
