:p what do you feel when your standing in the sun with your eyes closed and a cool breeze ruffling your hair ...what do you feel when you step out side and feel the cool raindrops on your skin?
or do you run for an umbrella and say oh my hair ?

When it's warm outside, and the rain isn't too cold - there's nothing better than standing there feeling it hit your skin, cooling you off. And if it rains really hard, there's nothing like jumping and playing in puddles.

We don't get a helluva lot of "coolness" so when we do im out in it .. and screw the rain! Get me wet! If it feels good then i want it!

I like it when you pass the instictive feeling of either avoiding rain, or squinting and flinching when it hits your face. There's nothing like that release when you relax, let go and let the rain consume you.

I like that Dr. Groove.....yes, I've felt that. Typically in todays society with every one rushing to and fro, we forget what this whole thing of living is all about. And so miss the most important part...the living it!
I use to run for cover, but I've tried to see things differently. As through a child's eye. With each drop of rain that falls, it's like little kisses from God. Or the rustling of a cool breeze in ones hair, it reminds me that he's always by my side, i am never alone, and how much he loves me.
:)

Angel, this made me think of you.

She had been shopping with her Mom in Wal-Mart. She must have been 6 years old, this beautiful red haired, frecklefaced image of innocence. It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over the top of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the earth it has no time to flow down the spout.

We all stood there under the awning and just inside the door of the Wal-Mart. We waited, some patiently, others irritated because nature messed up their hurried day. I am always mesmerized by rainfall. I get lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. Memories of running, splashing so carefree as a child come pouring in as a welcome reprieve from the worries of my day. Her voice was so sweet as it broke the hypnotic trance we were all caught in.

"Mom, let's run through the rain," she said. "What?" Mom asked.

"Let's run through the rain!" She repeated.
"No, honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit," Mom replied.

This young child waited about another minute and repeated: "Mom, let's run through the rain."
"We'll get soaked if we do," Mom said.
"No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning," the young girl said as she tugged at her Mom's arm. "This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?"

"Don't you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, 'If God can get us through this, he can get us through anything!'"

The entire crowd stopped dead silent. I swear you couldn't hear anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one came or left in the next few minutes. Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say.

Now some would laugh it off and scold her for being silly. Some might even ignore what was said. But this was a moment of affirmation in a young child's life. A time when innocent trust can be nurtured so that it will bloom into faith.

"Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. If God let's us get wet, well maybe we just needed washing," Mom said.

Then off they ran. We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the cars and yes, through the puddles. They held their shopping bags over their heads just in case. They got soaked. But they were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars.

And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing.

The last time I experienced a really good heavy downpour I was staying in Atlanta for the weekend with my husband. We finished shopping at Wal-mart and noticed as we walked towards the door that it was pouring outside.
We looked at one another and then at all of the people standing inside waiting for a let-up. Without saying a word, we joined hands and headed out into it. On the way to the car we splashed and played in the standing water in the parking lot and were completely water logged by the time we got in the car.
The rain didn't let up and we continued to splash and play through the parking lot of the hotel where we were staying. Once inside it was only natural to strip down and head for a long, hot shower :)
Afterward we both laughed at the thought of the crowd standing at Wal-mart waiting for the rain to let up. They had no idea all of the fun that they missed...

Hello charmed, it's a pleasure to meet you.

One of the things I enjoy the most is sitting out in my backyard and letting the sun and the breeze work their beautiful magic on my body as well as my mind. There is nothing more relaxing to me. Many times I've gone quietly into sleep and have had the most delicious dreams when I'm feeling so relaxed like that. I think that's why I enjoy going to the beach so much. I love lying in the sun and feeling the coolness of the air coming across the ocean water. It's just a beautiful time. I only wish I could get there more often.

What I love about the rain is the scent it creates in the air around us. I love the enchanting aroma that comes right before the raindrops begin to fall. There is something in that intoxicating smell that reminds me of jumping in the freshly made puddles when I was a little girl. I love walking in the rain and feeling the drops caressing my face and even running down my cheeks - they even begin to tickle and that causes a giggle or two to escape my lips. When my son was a little boy, we used to run outside as soon as it was finished raining. We were always looking for that elusive rainbow. When we would find it - oh, what a joyous time.

When I am standing on the beach, listening to the waves lapping the sand.. the sun warming my face and the wind flowing through my hair... I lift my face towards Heaven, my eyes closed, feeling a peaceful calm that engulfs me and reminds me to give a prayer of thanks.

As a child, my favorite thing was to rush out into our backyard and walking around in huge circles in the rain... What an invigorating, refreshing experience. To this day, I long to feel the rain washing over me whenever the clouds come... to remind me of those carefree times. As it happens so often... adulthood brings those responsibilities of having to be somewhere, children to care for, and on and on. It is easy to forget those wonderful feelings of being a child, and of just being one with nature for a while...

Thank you for the reminder.

Sometimes when it rains on you, it's mother nature's way of reaffirming exactly how you feel about your life.

On a somewhat brigher note, it sure was fun back in college working at the convenience store during the summer. A sudden downpour would occasionally hit on a very hot day, and all the co-eds would run inside the store for shelter. Of course at that point they were already soaked, and because it had been so hot, their thin flimsy white tops were of little use as cover. :)

hmmm

thanks guys hehehe ya'll are soo cute!

first im glad im not crazy and the only adult that still plays in the rain! and second let me pose this too you ...is the rain better in the summer or in the fall and exactly what hold you to the most enchanting thoughts do you think of faeries when you see a field of wildflowers ...do you think of dark elves when you enter a forest
ok i may be weird but isnt it intersting what you think of as a child and what you go back to as an adult?

Not crazy at all Charmed! Myself i never was around fields of flowers.. Even though i wish i had been! I've actually (sad to say) never really been out of Texas.. or for that matter to far into Texas. I need to do some traveling!

I will say this though, my favorite flowers are sunflowers, to me they mean sunshine, and happiness. The big beautiful yellow petals always make me smile.

As far as the rain, i'd have to say summer! Its always a nice suprise to have a nice cool shower after having so much heat! Nothing better then having rain falling on top of you running down your face and across your skin. :)

charmed,

Yes, I do think of faeries when I see a field of wildflowers. I think that's the child within wanting to only see the goodness and the beauty of the world around us. I've always been fascinated with faeries and how those beautiful flitting wings cascade through the air. Believing is the magic that keeps us young at heart.

As for the dark elves, I do become quite scared upon seeing a darkened forrest. That's the troll vision that has a hold on my mind from reading those Grimms Fairy Tales. lol

When we were little we used to go to my grandfather's house which was located in the mountains surrounded by acres and acres of untouched forest. In the daylight we used to watch the rays of sun that danced through the trees and we used to marvel at how they moved along with us on our walks. They really did. But, when darkness set and there was no moon or stars in the sky, it became such a scary place to be. We used to hear wolves howling and so many different creatures of the night claim possession of their territory once again. Being little that was so frightening.

I think summer and autumn rainfall is wonderful. The summer rain, though, has that delicious scent that I love so much. But, the autumn rain has its merits as well because it lingers in the air longer, I believe. Then you have the aroma of the fallen leaves mixed with the wetness from the rain...it reminds me of Halloween.

so true

its true for me holidays like halloween and christmas and thanksgiving well you just know their coming even at the begining of the month
its like the whole air takes on a spirited charge
that first fall rain every year signals halloween for me here in the tn valley theres always plenty of fall leaves covering the streets and fields of
hay and i dont think theres anywhere for me to live but here ive always held fasination in faeries and dragons ...ghosts sometimes i feel so at peace on nights i walk around the cemitary
i know ...but i swear im not a freak hehehe
its just a feeling you get its like setting on the porch at midnight with all the lights out and just a few candles burning ...its my heaven on earth
and i know this may not be the place but
IM AN AUNT AGAIN 2AM THIS MORN BABY GIRL!!!:D

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR COMMENTS IM GLAD I GOT TO TALK TO EACH OF YOU :rose:

Hi Charmed, welcome :)

I love rain in the summer....the cool feeling of it on hot skin, the breathless hope for cool it seems to promise. Rain in the fall signals cold and the hint of winter arriving, time to stay inside, curl up by the fire with a loved one and a good book :) Homemade bread in the oven, chili on the stove.

A field of wildflowers brings faeries to mind, as does a small hill in the middle of an open meadow. I read when I was a child about faeries and faerie mounds, have never been able to resist running through the flowers, turning in circles, eyes closed, hands outstretched to feel the gossamer wings brushing against me....or walking around the mound, hoping to find the right combination of time and spirit to find the opening to another kingdom. I can't seem to outgrow that, as well as walking along a stream looking for a stone with a natural hole formed in it, for protection and good luck.

Forests don't frighten me, or bring to mind anything dark, but I can't walk across a foot bridge without checking for trolls......LOL I have managed to get past checking under my bed for monsters now though :)
