They close down the streets for less. A gathering is in order!

We are practically neighbors PBW. I am in Arlington. Go to Tysons a great deal. I guess I am another female has joined the thread. I moved to the DC area last August and love it here. I hope to get to see more people from the area here.

RomanHans said:Hey, va_angel...I'm pretty sure that she's referring to the National Mall (the big stretch of grass between the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial)...I wonder if security will affect where it's held? I saw that they moved the location of the Smithsonian Kite Festival this weekend due to security precautions....

va_angel2u said:ah...ok..not sure where that is (been yrs since my cousins lived up that way and I visited. They lived only a few miles from Tyson, and probably drove me BY the other mall....but, don't remember that.![]()
RomanHans said:Don't think the shopping at the National Mall is as good as at Tysons...but then, if you need to find the National Mall, look for the object in my AV (the object on the right, in case you're confused).

MystiqDrgn said:I have a friend in Florida who does belly dancing. When she started she wanted to lose 20 lbs...she has exceeded that just by doing the belly dancing two nights a week. She didnt even change her diet. Glad to hear you find it fun. Too bad I don't have any more time in my already too busy life. ~M~
va_angel2u said:Belly dancing is becoming very popular, again. Those into aerobics are taking it up as a new activity, and those that arn't really sporty folks but want something fun to do, are also enjoying it. Many men here are not very fond of it, yet, but in the middle eastern cultures, men participate w/ it also. It's also not as rigorious as aerobics or most sporting stuff, it's more creative.
Glad your friend was successful w/ her weight goal. It does help develop muscles (esp. in the stomach w/ the rolls) that help to burn fat.![]()
RomanHans said:Y'know, I was just wondering that...can't imagine that there are too many men in your class (not that I'm likely to sign up for belly dancing lessons, either!). I wonder how long it will be until belly dancing is an Olympic sport (since dancesport I think will be an exhibition sport in the next summer Olympics, and I believe that bridge is angling to be one also...).

(hell, I've heard of guys taking other "womanly" classes to be near them, why not dance?? va_angel2u said:Hiya Roman,
Not overly many men in the class, for sure. Tho, the teachers hubby did come on an occassion to participate back before she had the baby and he became the sitter.![]()
Now, w/ my sca group, we once had a guy who lost a contest and had to belly dance at feast.![]()
Now, the thing is, when will the guys wise up and realize, "a room full of wmn belly dancing" AND "they could be the only man in class"....hmmm......might be worth the effort.(hell, I've heard of guys taking other "womanly" classes to be near them, why not dance??
