Variations on a theme

The base is actually made of a very simple salt dough. A tradition that I grew up doing and now do with my kids. The day before Hanukkah we make the dough and then make menorahs with it. We bake them to harden and then paint them. Then we use them for Hanukkah and toss them in the trash at the end. Fun/creative activity and removes the tedious process of de-waxing a classic metal menorah.
Ah, then I was right-- it is a well-loved heirloom, only in an entirely different way. Tradition -- an heirloom of memory, of hand and heart and soul. Passed down from generations, and passed on by you to the next, love and memory made tangible for a very short time. And that is the base upon which the candles, and everything else, stand. That all adds another layer, an even stronger layer, than if it had been a physical relic. And it all fits together for a richer tapestry for this picture. Even more.

Thank you, Princess, for adding even more to a beautiful picture.
