Seems like it may have been a tad chilly when you visited.

I suspect your afternoon might be a bit more steamy.... (OK...a lot more :) )

Speaking of online....I had to google.:D

Girona is in eastern part of Spain and the ancient city predates Christianity.............it is close enough to France
it has been fought over by the Moors, Romans, Franks, French......well the list does go on.......

Great pictures Vicky, notwithstanding one comment we are a community of adults and many take vacations. Who better to share them with than our friends here.......

The next morning we headed toward Klagenfurt, all I knew is I was driving west...................we were tooling along at about 85mph(135kph) and taking pictures out the window...Great Sony camera..................

oh yes, still Austria...parts of picturesque countryside.....:)

When I was taking the pictures I thought I'd need to crop to cut out rails but it gives depth to shots......

After taking shot five, I wanted to get a better shot, and sure enough there was a rest area right there........

But right after that, as shown in next pic, the weather started to get close............

Thanks shmily....kinda what I figured.......I'm sure most of us have been someplace we thought was special...this gives us a place to show the rest of the community...

and huggs right back atcha.........

Phoebs was driving and off to the left was a large lake, we passed several turnoffs because she remembered this small village............:)

Worther See is a mountain lake at over 4000 ft above sea level..........We stopped and had a drink and looked around the sleepy village of Maria Worth(i think)........

Off we headed south toward Slovenia....the roads were narrow, twisty, and had a little left over snow on them......her car; she drove....................:D

I think the next set speak for themselves; while we weren't in the Alps we were pretty close and mother nature can be wild..............)

*monitor(ms p) just informed me we were in Alps, I knew we were high up and those peeks were awsome*

I'll admit that when I clicked on this thread I was expecting something much different! I was pleasantly surprised to see the travel pictures. Thanks so much for sharing.

Slovenia is beautiful. That's one place in Europe I missed seeing when I was there.

We drove over an area which was badly damaged during a massive landslide which made half of a wonderfull mountain village completely dissapear.

Snow and landslides as well as earthquakes are frequent in the Alps btw.

She used a lot more emotion when she explained it to me, it was devastating......the village was split in half, homes and lives were lost..............people were cut off without help for days.......the cost of reconstruction to this tiny little village is monstrously expensive to the government

The fortress is one of the many remains of WW1 in our areas. Right here there was the longest frontline in Europe in WW1 and the scene of some big high mountain battles between the austrian and italian army. The Austrians could turn the events into their favour in the end with help of gasbombs which killed thousands of italian soldiers hiding in the caverns.....i think it's a not so wellknown fact from WW1.
