Vacation Thread

Next we went to the Royal palace. It's hard to take good pictures of it. It seemed like two blocks long. Today, it is filled with museums and the stallions arena. We missed seeing them by a few days. so we went in the one with all kind of armour and machinations of war going back thousands of years. The was room after room of knights on horses........strange to think the wooden horses here are even older than my country!!!!!!!

Somehow we turned around and were back at St Anthony's

This evening we ate at a large Austrian bauhaus. It seemed that in one life it was a large theatre.....again great food, beer, and Phoebs helping with her german.

Another nice thing about trip was because of Phoenix and Rania I never felt out of kilter with only my english. Many of the places we toured had english tour guides........Some didn't!!!!

beatiful pics, must have been a great trip
Yes it was, thanks.

Next, the shining star of Vienna..

Belvedere was intended as a garden villa but later expanded to include Upper and Lower Belvedere.........and the gardens in between.................

Both of the building now house the Austrian Gallery collections of Art..........almost impossible to take shots inside.........

The gardens at Belvedere were in state of repair while we were there...most of the statuary is not original again because of WWII bombing....

It was strange to see gardners stop and look at instructions on how to cut the grass and sculpt the topiaries. The ponds were now filled with grass and even those were sculpted!!!

The small nimph fountains came on just as I started to take my pictures......

The large fountain was one of many, but the only one finished!!!!!!!

Here is a better shot of Lower Belvedere. I took several shots of this tree. It was a mature tree growing out of the top of the wall...........bet it was not designed to go there but it does add to the overall interest...........

the mittleurope tour is really interesting and beautiful

True, but I took a risk in one of the rooms with the original wall and ceiling decorations from the baroque. ;) :)

Hi, S.

The statue is more of a fantasy work and Belvedere was Princ Leopold's manor. We didn't see a lot of rooms, if you remember, cause like you said, they made art galleries in both, the Upper and Lower Belvedere.

All in all, Vienna is rich on statues, most of them from the times of the Habsburg monarchy, which was one of the biggest empires in the age of their empress Maria Theresia back in the 18th century. Together with Paris and the french court Vienna was the cultural centre of Europe and one gets reminded on it almost at every corner in the city. :)

Sissy was one of the last empresses and lived 100 years after Maria Theresia. She was a beautifull woman and one can't ignore the emotions the people of Vienna still have for this lady.

speaking of statues..........Maria T or Sisi?

One of the few disappointments of my trip was the Schmetterling Haus..I have seen several better butterfly arborariums....we did get there late; but there were too many places for them to hide...............

There was a large public garden there and the wierdos were definitely out; but sorry, no pics.........

Dude this is LIT. Not the discovery channel.

Sorry that butterflies don't make you cum all over your screen, but if you had taken the time to view the whole thread this was a vacation trip meeting two very special ladies of Lit..............what better place for our 'friends' to enjoy the trip............;).
