One of the reasons for lack of pictures is that each nite we went out to eat.....well; not every nite; they played cards one nite.......:D

The cuisine was out of this world...the hotel even had great food. We went to their favorite places to eat.....We ate seafood......and of course Rania loves fish.....we ate in French Bistro...Ran dressed up (no pictures...how tacky).....

We went to a night club and watched a performance by an Italian blues singer who added Greek flavor with his costumes.......several Greek divas got up and the crowd went wild......Nick and Rania were up and clapping....she sure can sway those hips!!!!!!!!!

Rania cooked stuffed tomatoes and fried meat balls....I even ate some of that delicious soup that I'm not sure what body parts were in it.........

I got to see all the famous places....kitchen, living room, study, balcony, bathroom, and bedroom(you know the place where all the attachments come from)............
Get you head out of the gutter...................

what nice folks.......as some of you know her kid is excelling in English.....we talked quite a bit........she's got brains!!!!!!!!!

One day I met Rania and her daughter at Syntagma Square..by this time a was an accomplished traveler ..........this where the Greek Parliament is........also where the guys in funny garb guard the gate..............

We didn't get there at the right time for the changing of the guard; I saw a picture of their high step but couldn't find it .....but we did get there in time for pigeon feeding............

after that we went to a museum donated by an American to Athens!!!! it was small, just what my tired feet needed; but no pictures...........:(

Ran picked me up the next day in a cab to go up Lycabettus Hill...the tallest one in Athens.......He drove close to our destination but a street fair closed off the last bit and we had to walk.........up; and I mean up; I was huffing and puffing....Ms ciggie smoker was having no problems.....closer to the top we caught a tram..............

At the top was the Chapel of St George and a Restaurant.................I prayed a bit for my health....:)

and I took some more pictures.............

My legs cramped so bad Ran had to hold my hand(i think she was cking my pulse :() coming down Lycabeettus.........we walked through the most expensive area of Athens to shop.....Koloniki..........one shirt cost 350 euros......

She put me on a bus and off I went to soak in a tub......eat a great hotel salad for lunch and catch some zzzzzzz's

I think it was Saurday.....the three of them picked me up and we drove to Marathon................we went to a restaurant right on the sea..............Nick and Rania were treated like family.......it was really special........the women and men proceeded to talk up a storm..............family information most probably.....universal around the world.......we had very small fish for hors devours.........for our main course a rather large fish lead on.........

After ward we followed the line of the ancient runner who announced the victory against the Persians to the city of Athens.......thus the 26.4 mile modern marathon race.... at the top of the mountain you could look back at the sea or forward to Athens.....

As has happened lately....there were forlorn vestiges of past fires which has take the trees from the hills around Athens........what a tragedy................

Now I know i have this backwards but oh well.......we went to the Monastiraki flea market......some of this story has been told, but we went thru the stalls looking for over an hour and all I remember Ran really looking at were some thimbles she felt were way over priced.........not many pictures ...........

How so? I thought you were coming back, there's so much left that you haven't seen! ;)

I enjoyed so much our little trips around the city. When you live in a certain place, you tend to take everything for granted... it takes showing the spots of interest to somebody else, to appreciate them better yourself :)

:rose:

August 08................Athens, Delphi, Islands, et.al.....................the little trips are what made it enjoyable.....a little at a time instead of a full immersion....

I wanted to get a feel for a different culture ...........and your family gave me just that...........discussions with all three of you gave different perspective.....:)

August '08? OK! :nana:

Delphi...ohh, it's definitely a must see, one feels humbled and in total awe visiting... but, fair warning, it does take lots of walking!
I've been there eight years ago. People marvel at the Parthenon but imho Delphi is way more impressive.
