 Ain't the only thing to put on a bacon buttie more bacon and a fresh fried egg or two?;)

I'd just like to say that I totally concur with Janey & Anneski's opinions on English Vikings comments.

Totally with you & thank you for putting it so well ladies!

and so, taking life into my own hands, I thought about offering a groveling apology but on reflection a man should have the courage of his convictions (even if it means being sure to never receive a bacon sandwich).

I have never had a problem with Lit posters (although sometimes my name gets mistaken for female....I get strange posts when that happens).

I do however, genuinely think that a lot of English girls (as defined in my earlier post) are extremely "up" themselves (and believe me I am aware of the irony of this post). I am a Londoner and can only speak as I have experienced, for we are all the sum total of our experiences. I do genuinely find that English girls are too quick to blank or cold shoulder people. I am not talking about when you try to chat them up in bars (if approaching a girl for a relationship or sex a man must always be aware that he may not be welcome), I am talking about the day to day civilities.

For example; in a shop I asked if they were busy at the moment (I didn't mean anything by it, was just talking in general whilst my stuff was being packed) to which the girl replied "why what's your problem?" Similar experiences with hotels, restaurants, etc makes me believe that a large percentage of English girls have lost the capacity for polite social interaction and only view conversation as being something they start as and when they choose, or something a bloke will only be doing to chat them up.

Thank you Jane especially for such a polite reply.

i know ill get my ass spanked here but i agree with english viking on this one, there seems to be a large proportion of english women that will happily tell u "fuck off"rather than actually talk to u.
on the other hand though when u do eventually get talking to them they will be good to talk to,just shame its only the odd one:confused:

You're welcome-I was a well brought up girl:D

But I don't think it's just girls Viking-it's endemic in our society nowadays-rudeness and lack of basic social skills. Children aren't taught good manners anymore and this throws up inadequacies in comunication skills and lack of social graces

Hmmm I think you hit the nail on the head; when I was growing up in the 80's I'd never have dreamed of back chatting a teacher and the bad kids at school were the ones who smoked! Nowadays it's the ones who carry knives and guns who are in control.

I guess I just miss the openness, civility and friendliness that is disappearing from the UK. I don't think it is just kids though; the whole country feels divided and on edge with people afraid to talk to each other. Everything becomes a challenge. That's why I posted about English girls because it really feels when I talk to them that there is a serious chip on their shoulder and I just don't understand why.

Don't get me wrong I love some of the changes I've seen in my life - the sexual openness, the gay rights movement etc but I also feel the UK is losing something precious in a wave of tabloid driven cynicism.

I really should expand my profile and have seen Jane's may I just say "wow" :)
