and what they must be thinking.

Some with adrenaline, pumped for a fight.

Some with brevity, aware of death looming ahead. Death at their hands, death threatening their own person.

Some with fear. Fear of the unknown. Fear of what they know.

Some with stoic readiness to fill their duties. Whether they agree with it or not.

Thinking of their families. Perhaps fearing for them while they are so far away and the threat of acts of hatred for Americans is about to be fueled.

I can only imagine what they must be going through.

I pray they find peace some how, some way....some day. Not just in their physical lives but in their souls.

Words that have stayed with me since I first read them years ago. I've posted them here before but somehow seems worth posting again.

The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner

From my mother's sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.

I have a dear friend who is a turret refueler

rides in the belly of the big new england gas pumper

on the edge of oblivion

and i pray for him as well...

a manof true courage

and good humor...:rose:

I am thinking good thoughts for all who are there and all who are back home with some they love there.. I hope that its fast, brief and without casualities on either side...

There can be no peace when tyrants are free to kill their own "people" invade other countries and support terrorists. These brave souls are willing to put their life on the line to protect your freedom. Support them to victory.

I pray for them. I support them in their good intentions.

I do not define victory as the winning of a war. We lose in going to war whether we gain power or not.

Fine sentiments.:rose:

I've talked to reservists who do not want to go to war but they will do what they have committed to do.

I don't believe all soldiers will feel so good about it after, either.

I remember the Nam vet I talked to one day.

He was haunted by his dreams, the people he'd killed and the friends he'd lost. He lost himself in a bottle.

I think about the Gulf War vets who have suffered health consequences that our gov. tried to deny. I hope that our government can take more responsibility for the tolls the troops will be paying personally, this time.

Just don't think anyone will find honour or the remotest bit of glory. There isn't any. Either now or in the future.

Regardless of how you feel about the war, there are men and women committed to serving their country. We need to support them and do everything we can for them. I pray daily for everyone's safety.

I also know a website that you can volunteer to write to a serviceman or woman that doesn't get mail from home. It's a great moral booster when you get care packages from home. If anyone is interested in doing this pm me and I will give you the link.

I volunteered and recieved two names to correspond with.

You're welcome to post the link here, ShyLady.

I'm sure it can be demoralizing to think that the whole of the nation is not behind you when the government calls upon the troops to serve.

I certainly don't blame the troops and if they have to go into this they need to be on top of things the best they can be.

All I can offer them is my prayers.

Weed -- I'm an English major and read that poem for the first time last spring. What an impact.

Also, I don't support going to war but I've got enough friends and family in the Armed Forces that I support them...

It's quite chilling especially when you realize just what he's saying.

Makes me think even more on what the responsibility of the government is to its soldiers.

Your first post started my tears rolling.

My exuberance of yesterday is starting to fade.. and the worry has nestled it's way back into the home it's made in my heart.

Thank you for the link ShyLady, I've been wondering how to find out such information on my own and you've saved me the trouble. :)

Somme,

The honor is not in going to war, but in serving your country. I agree there is no honor in death, and none in fighting. The honor is always gained in doing what a person feels is right.

The men and women of the Armed Services gained their honor when the enlisted, some lose it through means of their own, but none will lose their honor by preforming the jobs that they have sworn to do.

I pray for those that go into harms way, in hopes that all will return safe. I know this is a dream, but right now it is all we have.

Too bad the majority of the soldier casualties will be our own doing.
First Marine helicopter crash, with all 16 on board dying in the crash. 12 British dead, 4 American dead. No evidence of enemy fire in this accident.

I haven't heard an estimate on how many Iraqi soldiers have died so far. Four here, four there,...

My stomach is in knots.

Ok...and if they're fighting under the false justifications of those who sent them in the first place?
