The Weekly Weigh-in Thread.

I despise plain water, so I use the Water Sensations liquid single-serving packets. They are similar to the Crystal Light "On the Go" tubes, but they are liquid so they mix better and I like them better. I know the artificial sweetner isn't good for me, but it's the only way I can drink water so I recommend it.

I bought a little filtration system at Walmart that filters 18 eight oz cups of water. It makes it taste a lot better. You have to replace the filter once a month. But I was spending more than 5 dollars on bottled water a month.

My week is done at the gym. Maybe some core work this weekend and a walk or two. Next week the motto is farther, faster, stronger.

Down 0.2lbs this week. Given that my birthday was in there, and I only exercised once...I'll take it.

I did 54 minutes on the ellipse this morning. Not really, only 27.

But we get 2X credit on Monday workouts. :p

Today is legs and shoulders. I'm gonna start squatting. Nothing like squats to make you sore for days.
Do one legged lunges... that'll hurt muscles you didn't know you had.

So... today i start this thread and well here goes.

BMI is 23.1 and the weight currently is 161 but I think it is partially due to the fact that I didn't go to the gym for about 3 days. Also I had a blizzard and chocolates and... yea..

So here goes, my weigh in is sunday because it is easier that way.

My gold is to get to 150 so that will mean lowering the BMI more then eating less or smaller portions.

...wish me luck.

You must be much taller than me! My BMI is 28.1 and I am at 164 lbs.

Not exercising yet today. I'm feeling kind of depressed. Barely managing to not eat more than I should. Bleargh.

I am so, so discouraged about this weight loss thing. I made the decision to stop my birth control (Depo) because I've gained probably 100 pounds on it. (And Master is sterile, so it's not like I'm *needing* it to avoid pregnancy.) I would like to go to the doctor and see about a suitable alternative, but I haven't had the chance yet. Anyway, since my body chemistry is all out of whack now, I've had two periods in the last two weeks. And what do I want to do during that time? I want to EAT, dammit!

I think the Universe is conspiring against me. I really, really do. :(

I am about 5' 10" actually and lately I've been either depressed or happy or angry or just overall anxious and upset. Thats why the craving for icecream.

Exercise is one of the best treatments for depression. But I guess if you are too depressed to exercise it's a mute point.

Winter gives me the blues. I was a summer baby and like it Georgia hot. Long days and steamy nights.

No loss - no gain.... That's ok - I was out of town and did NO exercising. I must get back to exercising!!!

It's ok...

I want to lose 70 pounds by the end of June. I started doing the L.A. Weight Loss and drinking a huge amount of water. I started on Friday, January 5th and as of this past Friday when I weighed, I have lost 9 pounds.

A news station in the area did a study on the "water diet". This guy drank a glass of water before, during and after every meal. He lost 60 pounds in 7 months without changing his eating habits. As i began reading about drinking water and dieting, I read something very interesting (it was to me anyway) A person is supposed to drink 64oz of water daily and for every 25 pounds they want to lose, they should drink an additional 8oz of water that day.

I figure if all i have to do is drink water to lose weight then i'm all down with the water .. even if i do have to force myself to drink it. I still have problems with getting motivated enough to walk tho.

Thanks for letting me join in the group. It's nice just to have some sort of accountability system. Ya'll rock, btw. :D

Welcome! Do you mind if I ask where you're starting from? The reason I ask is because 70 lbs is a lot to lose by the end of June. A safe rate of loss is 2 lbs per week, usually. It's easier to lose more than that if you are heavier to begin with, but 70 lbs by the end of June is still an awful lot.

The water thing is interesting, I think I have heard something about that before. I suspect you still have to adjust your eating habits - we still have to be putting in less than we're expending - but perhaps it promotes a faster rate of loss? It's worth looking into!

Too bad we can't measure body fat as accurately and as cheaply as stepping on a scale. I know they scales that measure body resistance and come up with a number, but I barely trust weight scales much less those.

Think about a woman 5'5" who has an eating disorder and goes down to 85 pounds. Her body has pretty much eaten all her muscle to survive. She is nothing but skin and bone.

And then think about a woman who is into weight lifting and goes from 125 to 135 but it's all muscle and her fat has actually decreased.

Yet, we have a mindset where losing is seen as good, and gaining is seen as bad. When really it is just a number.

Y'know WD, this got me thinking. I don't think it's all about the number for me. For me it's more about liking the way I look, which mostly means less tummy and preferably also less weight all around. I want to wear closely fitted jeans, which I can't do because of my tummy - I wear loose jeans to disguise it. I want to feel more comfortable with myself and the way I look. Right now I look in the mirror, and all I see is the tummy. So that's what I'm focused on, I think...the number is just a representation of how close I am to my goal. (I'm only assuming that 140 is where my tummy will be less noticeable...it may be more or less.)

Im at my pre holiday weight but much more defined and the jeans fall off when I have to take my belt off at airport security so Im feeling better. I do however need to loose weight to make my feet happier. Any thoughts on the meal substitutes as a way to get some weight off?

I am beginning at over 200 lbs .. geez, if writing that for everybody and their dog to see doesn't get me motivated, i don't know what will. I just can't bring myself to write the real number Etoile. If I lose 70 lbs by the end of June, I will be losing at a rate of 2 to 3 pounds a week. And, to be honest, if I only lose 2 pounds a week, I'm still going to be a happy camper at the end of June. My first real goal is to get below 200, then to continue until I hit the 70 lb mark.

I believe the gentleman in the news story said that after drinking all the water, he felt full; therefore, he did not eat as much. After reading this article, http://www.inch-aweigh.com/water.html , i better understood how water helps our bodies to lose weight.

Thank you for the welcome.

Please forgive me...my math skills are terrible. You are right, there are 22 weeks between now and then (thank you calculator!) and 70 lbs is probably quite doable. I just can't count.

Don't feel bad about not wanting to put the number down. Some of us share, some of us don't. To be honest, I feel guilty too when I say where I am. I'm 164 right now, and my wife says she would love to be at my weight, so I feel like I should be happy with what I've got and not complain about dieting because I've got it good. But like I said to WD, it's not really about the number...it's about being happy with how I look and what I wear. And I'm not, so here I am.

YAAAY for you! Time to update that ticker in your signature line!

I actually gained a pound this week. But, I sneaked a peek at the tape, and my belly is going down. I guess that's better than losing weight and gaining belly. :nana:

Is everyone weighing in on the same days for the most part or just any day that you check? Though since i have spent the last few days as a human cushion for the sick kid i hate to even think of getting on a scale as exercise is well not possible unless i duck tape her to my body

Any day is fine. People have different schedules and preferences. If I weren't so compulsive, I think I'd start weighing every two weeks.

I did ATG (ass to ground) squats yesterday, and I'm feeling it today. With #195. My legs have always been naturally muscular. So I may start putting on weight there. But the good kind that eats fat for lunch.

Now if I can stop pouting and get the ellipse done I'll be good until Monday. Chest and back tomorrow.

blergh on a weight loss stall I think. I am showing an ongoing loss if you look at the weight loss averaged out since I started (caloriecounter.com lets you post your daily weight and then shows you the trend). I am showing nonscale victories in that I have dropped a couple inches too. So I just have to keep telling myself that I can keep plucking along. I am definitely eating much better and healthier so I can't complain too badly. Just frustrated I can't really do any cardio type exercise due to no weight bearing on my left ankle. Patience grasshopper....
