The video game thread

btw, I did break down yesterday and buy EA's NHL 2003... Even though SB helped out alot by showing me a great gaming site that was able to help me pick between NHL 2003 and Sega's NHL 2K3.

If ya have NHL 2002, it's not worth your time to get 2003. Plain n simple.

I should get paid for this

First and foremost, if I had the money to get a new PC, I would be laying it down on the counter right now...I really want a new one.
Second: The site I told Lion about is www.gamefaqs.com
If you're looking to buy a game and want a lot of reviews from players just like you, it's a really good site, lots of message boards...one for any game you can think of practically. And lots of codes thrown in for good measure.
Lastly, Turok: Evolution sucks so far as I'm concerned. For the PS2 at least, the control is retarded. Almost none of the buttons are intuitive to the player. Jump is like the x button, and crouch the L1 button...or something to that retarded effect. The flying sequences are lame as hell. And...what really ticked me off is that you have no idea if some of the wildlife is hostile until it attacks you...which is usually too late to fire back, and you end up taking way too much damage...and you can't even kill nonviolent dinosaurs! What kind of crap is that?! I'd say rent it...definitely don't spend more than five bucks...you won't get your money's worth.

Thanks Bob....but I really am dirt broke at the moment...hence the "I should get paid for this" thing. And Cibo...that's the ONLY site I go to for gaming news and reviews and such. Did you participate in the summer character contest? That was fun, but I totally sucked it up.

You aren't a poser if you are in fact a player. :)

Now when I wear my Shortys or Blind hat?? I can accept being called a poser... :p

Hehe....Lion, being a poser is when you play the first Tony Hawk game and start getting good at it so you go out and buy a Tony Hawk hoodie and some airwalk shoes and think you look cool...not skater cool...but cool...cuz skater's aren't cool....or something.:D Just kidding, I mean no offense to the skaters out there...you rule guys.

Sephiroth?? I had my vote on Solid Snake. And I thought Mario would win it. Link...link of all people...makes me sick. Not that Link's not the man and all...just so many more kick ass characters that should've won.

LOL I'll save you the embarassment Lion, Sephiroth was the be all end all of badass bad guys in Final Fantasy VII.

Wish I was Cibo..

I'm not much into those Japanese inspired games mind you.. Hell Tekken is pretty much an unknown game to me!

Ya what SB said...

Not to mention he was in my AV before this one for about 6 months or so. :p

OOookay

I've got it: What is your all time favorite game(s), and what do you think some of the all time greatest moments in your video game history are?

Don't everyone answer at once

I guess since it was my question, I'll be the first.
Games: Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII,GTA3, Double Dragon II, Goldeneye007, Super Mario 64
Moments: The battle with Psycho Mantis in MGS, the first time with a hooker in GTA3(hey, we all remember our first time right?), being stoned and still kicking ass in goldeneye.....and staying up ALL night playing FFVII

All time favorites: Super Tecmo Bowl, Mortal Kombat 2, NHL 98, any of the TMNT games, Tetris, Duck Hunt, NFL 2K3, Baseball Stars, WWF Smackdown 2, Sonic The Hedgehog (the original.. btw, when the hell is Sonic gonna be on Xbox damnit??)

Favorite moments: Staying up until 4 am with best friend to finish the original Mortal Kombat on the top setting ... The dubbed by friends and onlookers as the "Miracle at Mi*******'s (<-- last name) where I came back from 6 goals down in the 3rd period as the lowly Predators against my friend's Red Wings ... Finishing Mario 1 & 3 ... Any time two or more of us get together for a hardcore match on Smackdown ... The last second hail mary TD as the Bears against the Falcons on NFL 2K3 (the one that just happened a while ago online)

Best games:

Sonic Adventure - Dreamcast (I have no idea if there was a different soundtrack for other versions of the game, but this game had the best soundtrack EVER in a game).

WCW/NWO Revenge - N64 (Brought in the game engine to be used by THQ for all the N64 wrestling games, and more importantly... it's at a good speed, unlike Smackdown, which is a beat em up)

Elite - Amstrad CPC 464 (For those who arn't in the know, think Commadore and make it so it has to have it's own TV to hook up to, along with a massively large chunky keyboard. The game however was an excellent space trading game, and in it's time, was the best game ever to be made (voted so too about 3 years running too over here).

Sonic - Master System/Megadrive(Genesis) (Without that game, we wouldn't have todays sonic games.)

Greatest video game moments:

Finding out Mario Brothers WASN'T originally released on the NES, but actually on the Amstrad (true story, I've seen the official Amstrad version, limited copies I hear due to it being pulled early on).

Hitting my first 900 on Tony Hawks 3!

The first time you send someone through the hell in a cell on Smackdown 2

The "extra Hell In A Cell" bug on Smackdown 2, and actually managing to climb up the invisible cage.

When Balamb Garden starts moving on Final Fantasy 8, my remembering of it comes from listening to Guns & Roses - Use Your Illusion Two while playing this game... as the Garden moved, Estranged was playing... the music combined with the video almost had me in tears (honestly).

Final Fantasy 8 again, when Squall & Rinoa are in the spaceship and Eyes On Me starts playing... I love that part of the game.

In the PC version of Worms Armageddon when you play online in a shopper game (you have no weapons, and each turn a crat appears with a weapon, all you can use to get around is the ninja rope) and finally get the hang of flying around the level like a worm on crack.

Worms Armageddon again, when you set up a customized theme for them, AND IT WORKS! :)

When you finally work out the BFG trick in Doom (for those that don't know, you fire the BFG, and when it explodes, instead of the people in the area of the explosion getting injured, there's an arc from the BFG gun itself that causes it, so you fire, side step directly in front of your enemy (changing weapons if you wish, hehehe) and when it explodes... BANG there goes the enemy, and your opponent wonders what the hell just happene :))

Command & Conquer Retaliation on the Playstation, when playing in link up on capture the flag, when my mate was attacked by the enemy and sent all his troops in against them, leaving his base unguarded, I sent in a single unit picked up the flag, and disappeared out of sight, suddenly all his units exploded, he reset the console hehehe.

Greatest Games: Final Fantasy VI. Kefka was the absolute worst villian the FF series has ever had, because he was absolutely fucking nuts. Most of the characters had personalities and backgrounds (Although some, like Mog, Gogo, and Umaro, were kinda light on the backstory and devlopment). There were hundreds of secrets that you could spend a LONG time looking for, and STILL not have found all of them.

Plus the endgame (Kefka's Tower and the final battle) was truly innovative, especially for the time. Nothing like the final battle has been seen before or since (though being able to switch characters in battle in FFX is similar).

Most memorable moments: General Leo's death, Rachael's revival, landing the final blow on Kefka... There are too many to list.

Favorite games...

Tecmo SuperBowl, Mario 3, Ledgend of Zelda, Royal Rumble, Maximum Carnage, Doom, NHL 96, No Mercy, Resident Evil 2, NCAA 2003.

Favorite Moments?

Beating any game i have...way too many to list, but just the feeling of beating a game i put so much time and effort into.

Beating "The Karate Kid" for NES 2 hours after i brought it home.

Beating RE2, totally and completly.

Playing No Mercy for a whole day, with the prize authentic WWF foam belts to the winners of the tag team/heavyweight title tourneys.

The create a player option in NHL 96 allowing me and my best friend Jeff to create teams of our friends and enemies...and just playing it for HOURS...

Favourite games:

Chuckie Egg: I used to play in on my older brother's Dragon 32, anyone remember that?

Tetris....that goddamn game took up most of my youth, and I can still remember my record of 270 lines!

Quake: I wasted a year of my higher education playing it online...I think that's pretty much self explanatory!

FF7 - What a game... when Aeris kicks the bucket at the end of the first disc, I was really close to tears! (Great moment too)

Gran Turismo - Still the best racing game ever.

More when i think of them...
