Hhhhmmm... I don't know. The main reason Blu-ray won the format war, aside from the backing up of the major film studios, was the sales of PS3. I don't really see how the pricing and models are confusing. They've been releasing different models which mainly differ only on the hard disk space for different prices.
The Unreal engine's working fine in UTIII. I know it's also used in a couple other games, but the names escape me.
Developing for PS3 is not an easy task, but it's been shown that it's not impossible to do. If some companies are too lazy to learn and do it, too bad.
And actually, Nintendo was slightly ahead of PS3 in the last report that was released.
What about the difference in having backwards compatability and not having it? Hmm? Last I heard, unless you buy the highest-end model, you're SOL. And I'd like to think that the major film studios play a pretty big role in the format war, aside from the PS3.
Slightly ahead? Let me know when you can find a Wii on store shelves, I still can't.
At any rate, having an argument about this is stupid. I just like to play games, and eventually I'll probably have all the systems just like I did last-gen. I think they all have their own strengths and weaknesses. They're just too damn expensive to buy all at once.
