The Tea Party Is Falling Fast in Its Battle with the GOP Establishment

Agreed. Only Ulaven was responding to him. Otherwise, he seemed quite lost and bewildered. I think we should do this again for another week and let Ulaven join in.

Did I miss something? I'm never invited to the cool parties.

We had a board challenge last month where, on a notion brought up by Garbage Can of all people, that those of us who routinely engage Vette should ignore him for a whole week. Four of us got in on the gig. The rules were no responding to posts, no mentioning of him in ours, no participating in his threads, no secondhand responding through others' quoting him, etc.

We all pretty much achieved the challenge although I kinda jumped the gun just before the finish line by a couple of hours! :D

Fuck that! I had way too much fun making him dissolve into a frothing rage by using his own links against him repeatedly.

In fairness to Zoomie jumping the gun I very nearly failed in the first fifteen minutes. Mostly on account of being on the East Coast so everybody else got to play with him until Midnightish their time. I stepped in from work was working on a post, looked at the clock and pouted. I'd missed my window!

So I mostly being spiteful when I pointed out to Zoomie that he was supposed to wait another two hours or so. If I had to suffer all must suffer!

Yeah, it was a bit of a struggle at first not to knock his daily idiocy, but after Day 1 it was surprisingly smooth going. I likened it to a juice cleanse. :D

It was funny to watch him blab on with barely anyone countering him, though. He was also missing one or two of his usual yes-men, so it was almost like he was all alone in the wilderness.

How did Thad Cochran do tonight, in the runoff?

:D:D:D

Campaigning for black votes in a state where over a third of the people are black. What a shrewd strategy!

This is an old pattern in the South reasserting itself. The Democrats of two generations ago (George Wallace et al.) didn't just ignore their black constituents, they persecuted them. They suddenly changed their tune when they realized they needed black votes to win, but once that was no longer possible for Southern Dems, most of them joined the new official Party of the White Folks.

It was inevitable than in a one-party state where all the real races take place in Republican primaries, someone was going to get the bright idea of going after the big untapped bloc in Mississippi.

I never did get around to registering to vote during the years I lived in Texas, but if I had, I'm sure I would have registered as a Republican, because it's the only way to have a say in local races. It's the same idea that those blacks who voted for Cochran -- and I suspect there weren't all that many, but possibly enough to tilt this race -- were putting into practice. Cochran won't suddenly become a moderate now, but if the only option in Mississippi is "lesser of two evils," then he's a rational choice for that state's small band of moderates and liberals.

Cochran was supposed to have been thumped in the runoff, whatever you might dislike about the Teahadists, they know how to get out the vote, and typically run roughshod in a runoff.

Cochran simply laid all his cards on the table and told everyone how much Federal money he brought to the shithole known as Mississippi. He reminded folks of McDaniels pledge to pursue his toxic "Let Grandma Eat Cat Food" policies.

It worked.

51-49, pork over psychosis.

Vetty and AJ and the gang will be by in the morning to offer up the usual excuses and conspiracy theories.

Vette's already on right now, but he's having too much fun overusing his freshly coined "Keystone Kunts" meme. :D
