Think about it. In fifty years, we could mostly be a nation where the majority are not one race, but a hybrid. An alloy, which is generally stronger than the metals from it is composed.

The only drawback: increased lactose intolerance. Better invest in those kind of pills. They'll be a growth industry.

Granted, there are some troublemakers among illegals, but some laws can also be changed. Many are only illegal because of how stupidly difficult immigration has become. In the past, we were more open and we could better regulate the situation. That's the answer again.

Plus, I just want some Mexican tail.

Seriously, though, the more interracial marriage and relationships, the better, especially if you have kids. Just wear a rubber until you're ready for kids, because STDs are such a buzzkill.

For what it's worth, the two ways of becoming post-racial are:

1) Eliminate all the races. That was Hitler's idea, and many others', even those on the side of "good." No visible differences, no racism, the thinking goes.

2) Eliminate the flawed, non-scientific, hegemony-serving concept of race itself.

Those who advocate option 1 are usually those who have trouble getting past their own racial preconceptions.

Those who advocate option 2 usually underestimate how invested in their racial preconceptions most people are, whether they know it or not.

Point is, the markers for "race" aren't going anywhere. The misconceptions associated with them certainly might...but it's unlikely.

We're all already fusions. White people are a tiny subset of African blacks. The normal markers for race are physically manifested adaptations to environment, not genetically significant indicators of culture or ethnicity or belief or tendency. THAT'S the helpful conversation: shifting to culture or ethnicity, while acknowledging that people are far less likely to want to give up their racial preconceptions, right or wrong, than we think they might be.

Race is a handy and useless bit of externally applied visual pattern-identity, nothing more. It helps cops narrow down hunts for people who commit crimes. It's a shorthand for a collection of common hues.

Yet we're probably never going back to a pre-racial past, which means we're also probably never really going forward to a post-racial future. It's here. We have to figure out how to work with it.

Sure, and there are lots of other differences as well. For purposes of the discussion at hand, though --whether we might become "post-racial" via one means or another--there is no difference in effect: the solution in both cases is, "get rid of all those pesky races."

One race is one race, regardless of the path there. Achieving that is not becoming "post-racial." It's becoming mono-racial as a means to avoid negotiating difference.
