I've been saying that all along. They're stuck in the past and they don't want to see change. They want things to be as they always have been.

This is laughable from a leader of a religion that TRADITIONALLY hid pedophiles and rapists and moved them rather than report them to the police for arrest and conviction. Many priests were serial rapists and pedophiles and perpetrated their crimes for years in a multitude of churches. Its only been brought to the forefront and somewhat addressed by the catholic church because they couldn't keep the victims quiet anymore. The church didn't come forward they were exposed and reacted. They have know for decades, and maybe even centuries that this was going on and did nothing to stop it. If there is a Hell I hope those priests suffer endlessly there.

I honestly couldn't care less what the pope or the catholic church has to say about most anything. Catholicism is the world's largest and longest surviving cult.

I've often been at least ambivalent to the Nietzschean idea of liberalism being nothing more than the latest iteration of Protestantism. Where the prods tried to do away with priests, the libs merely took it one step further and got rid of god.
