I am about to start the pill and I was wondering if people could tell me if there is anything that I should know about it, postive or negative, before I start as well as if it is safe to have sex without a condom when it kicks in. We have been together for seven moths and are both clean, but a pregnancy at this point in our lives would be unwise. Although I am not sure that this is the right forum to post this in, I was wondering if sex without a condom is messy. It seems like if there is a condom used, all the cum is neatly packaged to be thrown away, and if there is no condom used, the cum has to go somewhere, so where does it go? That is not the best articualted question, but it is the best I can do right now. Thanks.

Grammarwench--I like that name! :)

I'm not the most qualified person to answer your pill question, as it has been 10 years since I used it, and I don't remember what we did that first month (it must've been successful, whatever it was). I'll defer to people who know more about it.

Ever hear of a creampie? :D

Seriously, it all depends on your idea of "messy," I suppose. I believe that an egg is fertilized in the fallopian tubes, so some of the sperm (but definitely not all) make their way there.

This page from Planned Parenthood has excellent, comprehensive information about pros and cons, what to expect, etc. Your doctor, pharmacist, or local Planned Parenthood clinic should be able to answer specific questions as well, but I've always been told to wait 1.5 to 2 packs before quitting another method.

If you don't use a condom, the semen will go in your vagina, and eventually leak back out. It's not a big deal for most people, though I've found it to be rather messy when added to a ton of natural lubrication. When I was on the pill, we used condoms as an extra precaution and it was less of a mess, especially when we didn't have time to shower after.

I've always been told 3 packs before quitting another method.

If you're really worried about pregnancy though, and dont want to use condoms, look into other options like spermicides (they come in foams, gel, film, and a whole bunch of others). Be warned though, they do not protect against std's.

I will agree with what Erika said about the mess when you dont use a condom. It can be messy. If you dont know what to do about it, put a towel under your butt for it to soak onto (it will wash out of the towel) afterwards.

The information that comes with the pill will say how long before sex without a condom is safe. The amount of time depends on the type of pill you're taking, so don't accept any non-brand-specific information here. I looked at the drug info with mine, and it says 14 days. I'm sure that there are others that it's a month or whatever. If in doubt, call your doctor and ask her/him.

my bit on the pill

i've been using the pill for almost 4 years straight now and while there has been on or two pregnancy scares nothing bad has happened to me.
while after a certain age if you smoke you won't be prescribed it, it is generally not good to smoke while on the pill cuz there is a chance you could get a blood clot in your lungs.

i am on the pill cuz i'm allergic to latex and i think spermicides too. i guess i could say i was lucky. also my b/f has never had sex with anyone but me so i don't have to worry about std's. and he doesn't have to worry because about 4 months before we met i was tested for everything including hiv.

as far as the mess goes.
if you have a towel handy he doesn't have to come in u. just on you. the clean up takes less than a minute lol.
thats the way we go.
so i have really almost no chance of getting pregnant.
but if your interested
i know people who were on the Alesse pill and have still gotten pregnant.
the second strongest one(which is what i am on) is Tricyclen(sp?) the strongest on isn't really a birth control pill. Dianne is an acne medication where the side effect is birthcontrol. consequenly it is the strongest one too out of all the types of pills i know about
well i hope this was informative

mine says 14 days too, but the doctor said 3 months to be extra safe and to make sure about how the side effects are going to effect you. My doc said that the side effects can cause somewhat odd ovulation times in the beginning and that's why she recommends waiting 3 months.

Big fan of the oral contraceptive.

if I was to go back on the pill,
( which I cant cos I fall into the "too old/smoker/ family history of heart disease/migranes" list of high risks) and I was on it from 16 to 34.

I would choose a monodose, high hormone combination. Just because you have the added bonus of being able to tri or even bi cycle. meaning you skip the sugar pills, which give you a period and keep on taking hormones.

Then you can choose to have a period every third or 4th cycle. I only had 2 periods a year when I was on it.
The added risk is you wont know if you are pregnant unless you test regularly, which I did. Still preferable to bleeding.

Studies are showing there is no harm, as the female body is designed to be pregnant or breast feeding more than we do now, and not menstruating 12 times every year for our entire reproductive lifetime.

That would be my choice. The triphasic pill, with its different comination of 2 levels of hormones, gave me migranes as the hormone level changed. And you cant control your bleeding.

Side effects:
mood swings, worse on triphasic I found
weight gain, esp in hips and bust,- mine shrunk when i went off it. sad I miss my
breasts.
altered sex drives. ( up or down, mine was higher then)
skin changes and sensitivities.

but on the whole....I had no complaints. I had no pregnancies. I was very careful, esp when I had sufferred an upset stomach, diarrhoea ( its not absorbed and you have to use condoms for a time after) or on other drugs, like antibiotics, which interfere with it.
But I had a fear of getting pregnant too. If you think you would cope with a baby, then you tend to get careless. For me it would be a major catastrophy.

I've been back on the monodose pill for the past two years and I love it. I had started to have trouble with skipping cycles (a lot of it was due to stress) and flooding. I have my tubes tied so I don't need it for contraception just to regulate my periods. I don't smoke and my medical history is ok but will be going back for a checkup next month.

My periods now are very light (two days using a mini or regular tampon and 3-4 with a panty liner). I know exactly when they will start and if I want to I can skip the sugar pills and have a period when I want to (I don't do that often because Gil doesn't like me interfering with the cycles too much, plus my breasts get tender near the end of two packs). I have been lucky I've had no side effects on the 3 brands of pill I've taken over the years :)

Sure fire way to avoid pregnancy......oral, fingers, toys and blowjobs! ;) :D

i've been on the pill since last july, only complant i have is mood swings and weight gain.. i'm thinking of changing mine... just have to find time to see the doc lol. As for the mess.... i really not mind it unless it's quicky sex somewhere, where i can't pee like 10 mins after to wipe the stuff off me... it's kind of funny cause it feels real googie... kind of fun lol anyways.. mine also says i only have to be on for 7 days and i havn't had any problems yet.
