The official Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' 2022 Contest Support Thread

Bumping!

Kinda makes me wonder whether there'll be all that many entries...
This will be one of the largest collection contests. Always is. It's early yet to be discussing it even. I think I have six just myself. I'm reviewing one now.

I've done the Geek event, the Nude contest and have my AI event story ready. I've got a story that would be perfect for Summer but it's probably way too long to get done in time (estimated 30k words) and I've got a less ambitious idea which hasn't quite resolved into a full plot yet. I've also been spending some time on some non-event stories I've havd lying around, so...it's kind of touch and go whether I'll submit anything or not. I kind of feel it's a bit too similar to the nude day contest, too soon afterwards.

Dunno. Spare a thought for the "Amorous Goods" event though. Not even crickets...
This ones a bit further away, and a lot of events before that. I've got an idea for this, so hopefully will be able to take part.

This may be contrary to the notion of support, but it occurs to me that if there aren't many stories in the contest, the stories that are entered have better chances of winning. Yet this conclusion is also a form of support. It can encourage people to dash something off, when they might otherwise have written something else...defeating the notion that there wouldn't be many stories. A conundrum!

However that shakes out, I may have a plot now for my story, but it may need refining as more scenes are written. It's still three weeks or so until the contest debuts.

I think there were about 2 dozen entries when Nude Day started and just short of 100 at the closing bell

17k words but the end is in sight. E&V for a category. 90% of the comments will be asking when the second chapter will be coming out. Anyone want to bet with me? :D

No way! I've found that when you write a good story and bring it to a nice close, our readers will see a hook to another chapter that we didn't realize exists.

Oh, there are several hooks in the story but without new characters it will be the same old thing over and over again. I like the characters but do I have the time to write it the way it should be written. So much to do and so little time.

I just saw a news report a few hours ago that promptly hatched a new plot. So... why not?

Bird researchers off the coast of Maine. Might be fun.

Got one cooking for this contest. It's gloriously dumb but hopefully fun and sexy too. Good luck to everybody. May your stars be plentiful and your readership numbers... girthy.

Don't tell me, let me guess... Two researchers get caught by the weather and have to spend the night in a bird hide.

Title - "Rubbing the Raven"

I'll see myself out.

I was thinking something more like "Huffin and Puffin."

Seems like it's going to be a quick one. Maybe around 10k words, which is not long by my standards.

I'm hitting snags in mine. The sex just happens, it isn't integral to the story. The tone tends towards preachy. I have thought-experimented a possible fix, which I'll try out as a rewrite once I have fresh eyes for this item. (I'm alternating days on three stories.)
I know, there's nothing wrong with sex that just happens. It's one of the things that can make real life enjoyable. But to be true to my allegiance to high concepts, I need to write the sex as something uniquely connected to the plot. I have weeks to solve this, no panic yet.

Same here. I'm finding the other parts of the story more interesting than the sex itself, which is rarely a good sign.

If I finish a first draft in time, I may go back and redo the sex scenes to make them more vivid, or even add in a few more. At the rate things are going, I might actually have time to do that for once.

It is finished. 19,975 words. No sex except masturbation. Maybe I can get away with it since it is first time E&V. Only time will tell.

Northstar asked a question on another thread about submission dates. Entries go live on the 19th, and you can submit about a week beforehand. It'll just sit in the queue until opening day.

I made some headway today, and might have worked out a useful plot point. But I'm not yet at the point of seeing this as a submittable story.

Perfect timing, just finished a summer pool story, so I'll let it sit until then.

Just finished the rough draft to my story! Plenty of kinky sex in it. Now it's just missing a plot, believable characters, grammar, and consistency.
Should be quick to fix.

Soo... you're saying that I should start using those things?
