The official Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' 2022 Contest Support Thread

Shouldn't that be Kay Wrens since it's a story about birds.

I think they're puffins, mostly, and guillemots?

I'm thinking I might not enter it. I might just go ahead and submit on its own. It's a summer story, but it's not particularly emphasizing the summer-ness.

Nah, toss it in. What's the worst that could happen?

Maybe.

I'm enjoying it. It's quite simple as a story, though the other tale I wrote for this is a bit deeper. But I might like this one better.

I have three potential ideas for summeri-ish themes., but zero chance that I'll finish them all for the contest. I should get one written and polished before the start, but I can't come up with a good title. The MC is afraid to take his new girlfriend to his fraternity brother's wedding, because of all the crazy orgies they threw back in college. Of course, the wedding is on a private Caribbean Island, an orgy ensues, and he learns his beloved was a total slut all along.

The other idea is a half baked idea for a strip beach-volleyball tournament, but I haven't developed it.

The third will make a good story, but I'm not ready to write it, so no point in talking about it yet. It's on my list to complete but it won't make it for the contest.

I've finished the first draft. 7k words, and probably won't go too much longer. Still not convinced that it's submittable, but I think it's worth a try to keep working on it. I am, of course, addressing themes that will surely sabotage reader interest.

i think i've finally got <a flimpsy gist of> an idea a-brewin' for this one.... 🤞 loads of disjointed scribbles: descriptive imagery and flowery wordplay... But, so far, not a speck of actual ***SEX*** :ROFLMAO:

Well, that's why there's a non erotic category. 😋

Today's work session has me just about convinced that the story can be submitted. The ending may be too abrupt, although I like the effect it could have. From the sound of things, though, maybe I should just stay out of TxRad's way.

Don't worry about me. Summer is one of my favorite themes. I'll spread mine out and leave everyone plenty of room.

Draft finished. For once, I might have time to proofread it!

My story is about a young person who is overworked and becomes increasingly discouraged as the summer progresses. Come to think of it, considering how the story is progressing (not), that could describe me except for maybe the young part! I'm hoping it will be done by September 1st but that's looking tight.

My potential second story has been abandoned yet again, just like it was last summer. Maybe next summer?

Just a quick note - the competition goes live on the 19th, but you can start submitting entries earlier. Just make sure you have "Summer Lovin 2022" in the Notes to Admin field.

Sometimes he wonders, what he's a-gonna do, 'cuz---wait a minute! What if somebody invents a cure for the Summertime Blues? It would almost certainly involve lovin'.

Mine is coming along, a dumb comedy about a couple of dim-witted surfer dude brothers and their even dimmer stepfamily set in the late 1980s.

Maybe, just maybe, I might succeed in my long-held aim of making the Incest Taboo fans laugh this time?

I doubt it. They seen to me to be a very serious crowd, plus, step family? You're not playing for real. I predict it won't run well, but hey, you never know :).

So true!

And now I won't be able to get that darn song out of my head for the rest of the day. Ha ha!

Yeah, submitted. I'm still undecided on what to do with the other one I cranked out. It doesn't strike me as particularly "summer-y."
