Green bean casserole is so so gross.

It's funny. I used to eat it just because my grandma made it every year, and I only really saw her for the holidays. She thought it was my favorite and I didn't want to tell her it wasn't. Now, though, I love it. I'm not sure how that happens, but I suspect it's tied to the memory.

green bean casserole is just good, old fashioned comfort food. it's best not to over analyze it. just let it be.

ugh. i got fucking blue monday in my head right now. at least it's the original and not the shitty cover version, but that is only a small comfort.

My thought too, but maybe I only have had bad ones? I love green beans. So turning them into something less good seems not wise. There is so much good food and richness something plain and green is good.

Fresh green beans are not readily accessible at this time of year, and if so I wouldn't want to go ruin them by adding cream of mushroom soup to add to their slimey factor.

Give me fresh petite green beans and a dash of seasoning any day.

I'm a little mortified. My sister informed me last night she ordered a precooked turkey. One her her ovens is on the fritz, the other is too small to fit a turkey in. I wish she had told me before. I would have insisted she fixed it or changed the menu. :( And, what's the point of having an AGA stove if you can't fit a large hunk of meat in the roaster oven.

Pie shaming is uncalled for.

Never give a woman the impression that her pie is inadequate.

mandatory, schmandoatory. it's fucking boring. and they've pretty much killed the specialness of it now that they have pumpkin flavored everything.

Yeah, but after you get the pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, the pumpkiny stuff is over till next fall. It's a must.

Do a prime rib on the grill!

I may just have to do that. My favorite way is to coat it with brown sugar, blast it with super high heat, then turn the best way down. Best standing rib roast I have ever done.

There is enough enough to do getting the meal going without the equipment breaking down. That sucks.

Standing rib roast? Bring it!

i remember eating fake turkey one year because i was a vegetarian. it actually wasn't bad. i know. i was shocked too.

We have a smoked turkey this year. Life-changing, those birds are. And since it's served at room temp, it allows you to do other things with the oven.

ugh, that blows. :(
and it's too late to make other plans now, huh?

My GF has contracted some sort of plague, so tomorrow I get to meet her folks AND cook Thanksgiving dinner for everyone at her place.

This should be fun! :D

I have to do something. For me Thanksgiving is as much about cooking as it is about spending time with family. It's a house full of people, the smell of a turkey cooking while blasting the 11:00 broadcast of Alice's Restaurant.

My pies are baked and the Cointreau Cranberry Sauce is made...I'm ready to get this party started!!!

just get chinese take out and tell the family that you're protesting the raw deal the indigenous peoples got

they'll understand. :D

Having a Boston butt here, cooked low and slow until it just about falls apart. Just made my dry rub. Have a few bottles of Oregon Pinot Noir ready to go.

Are you a good cook? If so, that will make for a good first impression.

I'm a pretty good cook....I'd say intermediate to advanced-intermediate.

I've never done a complete Thanksgiving menu before though...timing stuff might be a bit of a challenge.
