The Great Dinner Throwdown

It was a damn fine dinner.

I do really like roasted cherry tomatoes. I got some from Costco but couldn't use them all quickly enough so I roasted them. Nothing fancy, just salt pepper and olive oil. I used to make a sauce out of them but this time I just left them whole.

Looks good Adrins.

Just wings in the air fryer and salad.
Last night, chicken souvlaki and salad. Easy, quick meals this week

Ours ended up in a pulled pork stew. Costco fresh veggies are great when you've got a couple teens eating in the house, but damn, there's a lot of food to deal with when it's just two people eating.

I go back and forth between wanting an air fryer. So far my lack of cupboard/storage space and lack of real need has kept me from taking the air fryer plunge. :D

It's hard to beat their paper products, maple syrup and rotisserie chicken however. Their vitamins aren't so bad either.

I have one, it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Basically, it lets you attend to other things while it's reheating your frozen goodies. And yes, it uses a lot less oil than frying does.

It's still not the same. I normally use peanut oil to fry stuff in. I used the same oil with some frozen krinkle cut fries in the air fryer. The taste and texture aren't even close to being the same.

The microwave heats food faster as well. And if I want crispy, that's what the toaster oven is for.

All in all, I'm glad I didn't spend a couple of hundred bucks for the air fryer. It's not exactly a waste, but it isn't really as much of a time saver / better cooking appliance as it's advertised to be.

Good to know. That's been one of my problems about it - I already have everything it does.

I like mine. Makes excellent wings and dumplings.
But mine is an Instant Pot. So it pressure cooks, crock pot option and sautés.

I no longer need a deep fryer or crock pot. I really don’t need the microwave either. The only thing I use that for is to occasionally defrost something or make popcorn. It’s large and pretty useless for me.

My thing about Costco is their meats and fish are mostly sourced under American rules...so lots of Additives and Hormones. Blended processed milk. Monsanto. etc.

It's all toxic and Costco doesn't care as long as you buy a giant slab of it.

So I won't shop there. Unhealthy.

Right. Because Costco only sells food items.

It's your food thread, but since you brought it up, Costco's okay for some things, but they don't have anything I can't buy elsewhere without the whole show your card, stand in line, Gom department store thing.

Arguing just be contrarian makes you look like even more of an idiot.

I've been pretty sick the last 2 weeks. I haven't touched a pot or pan. I even submitted and let them order Olive Garden... Et tu, brute?

O.G. gets a bad rap. I grew up in an Italian family and we all hate it for the fake "Italian" cuisine. BUT, if you go in just wanting some decent chow for a good price, it's fine. Luckily, our is a pain to get to. :D

It's edible, yes. Kind of like Stouffers lasagna is edible. But so is tortilla chips and handfuls of cheddar cheese, thrown into the microwave and nuked until it sizzles.

The word I'd use is "consistent", like MacDonalds, Pizza Hut, etc.

BTW, the Misen 7 qt came in. It's pretty darn nice. It was the vessel for the turkey soup yesterday. Will put it to the test after a while.

I had cheese on toast. Because I didn't get in until 8.30, and was in my cave until 9.

It doesn't deserve a picture.

...but it was organic sourdough, and a delicious smoked cheddar

After your mention, I've been doing Misen research. I did opt for some new MadeIn pieces. The 2 and 4qt sauce pans I got a month ago are pretty nice. They cook very very even and retain wonderfully. I ordered a 12in skillet that just got here the other day. Haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. I liked the lifetime warranty, something the misen seemed to be missing.

I'm actually cooking some homey creamy chicken and noodles tonight. Using the new Staub for the first time.

I would call our olive garden anything but consistent. It's what happens when High-school kids and their friends run a fucking restaurant.
