I have heard people lament the climate of the General Board. Few people mention specifics, but clearly something has been lost.

I, for one, miss the truly open spirit of the place. The requirement to register was a huge blow to the hands-off approach the management seemed to once take.

Nostalgia is never what you remember it to be........

Registering is a good thing, unless you are the spineless type who can only offer a criticism or comment whilst posting under the psuedonym of anonymous, or in this case unregistered or guest............

This way, even the alternate identities are not rolled into the mish mash of static, and can be given some credence.

I think that characters here have come and gone, and the bigger the personality the bigger the effect.......... but this place is still a free for all, there is nothing to stop you registering 20 id's and posting in a different style for each one.............

If that's your style.........

To this day I run across posts by people making fun of or talking shit about The Playground, for no reason except that the PG isn't a constant flamewarzone.

Lit is what we make it. Our experience of Lit is what we choose it to be.

One of my pet peeves is seeing people complaing that Lit is boring or posting threads that say "entertain me" - etc, etc. If someone is bored then they should start a thread on a topic that interests them and hopefully others will participate.

Another pet peeve of mine is people complaining about all the negativity. The negativity only exists because people participate in it. Never read or post to another thread or comment by Hanns or anyone else you dislike and you will have changed your experience of Lit. If enough people stop posting to the assholes then they'll go away - no doubt about it - because all they crave is attention - if they don't get it here, they'll get it somewhere else.

Why read threads about subjects that annoy you? Why write long diatribes responding to people who aren't worth the time?

Well - if you choose to do those things - that's your perogative, but then don't come here and complain that Lit Sucks. It sucks because you choose to allow it to.

(BTW - none of this is directed at Riff - these are just general comments on this particular subject.)

BTW - the one exception to everything I said is The Playground. The Playground actually does suck.

Well it sure beats a bunch of idiots on the GB griping about The Playground. Physician, heal thyself.

And not EVERYONE is mean. Just the idiots who invaded the PG and laughed at the rape threats hurled at Native Alien, and then spend all this time griping and whining about Lance and Hanns for doing the same thing.

There are a lot of nice folks who even settle their disputes on the GB with far more class than the likes of this "we" that you keep talking about. Unfortunately there used to be a lot more of them, before they left because of all the senseless verbal abuse going on.

Of course, it would be pointless to explain to you the childishness of the way "we" behave towards others. You grew up believing that the only way you can stroke your ego is to one-up your peers in rude and crass behavior. When people get sick of your antics and move away from you, you assure yourself that they can't handle it. You call anyone who has a problem with it "self righteous".

The irony of it all is that when people like Shrimps 'n Peas, Hanns, Lancecastor and the like, tear into your almighty crassy ass, you are just as self righteous and indignant as the nicer people that you go out of your way to offend. I never said I'm the only one who has had an issue with what's going on here. I just came, saw the topic, and submitted my opinion with regards to the question put forth. And obviously that opinion gets on the very nerves of at least one person who is guilty of exactly what I said; and now he sniffs my boots from one thread to the next.

Dexter has learned the power of mathematical functions... Lasher=f(LovingTongue).

My point is, the GB has certain people who come to do nothing but break wind, and whenever someone says "peeEEewww," they scream "overreacting" or "self righteous" or "can't handle the smell? get off the bus!"

It never occurs to them that unrestricted flatulence is less performance art and more public nuisance.

What is it that makes you think I want to play "moral leader"? I'm stating my opinion just as you or anyone else is.

And the whole "You need to learn to deal and not take everything that happens here so damn seriously" is a failed argument not only because it is overused, but also because it can be quite readily turned and applied to chastise people who suggest that Shrimps'n'Peas, Frimost, Lancecastor, Yayati (RIP) and so on, should act differently than they do. They're just more rude and abusive than the run of the mill GB asshole.
