The Golden Age of Literotica's General Board

One thing that has never sat well with me is the clientalism of the board. It's another old song. It reaches its more extreme form in the mutual cocksucking threads- you know, the personal recognition thing.... not content... just ego-stroking. There seems to be a lot of that here these days.
That was such an awesome quote. It was really cool the way you quoted it and then didn't say anything about it. That was very unexpected. You are so cool.

jesus, I didn't realize this place had so many egos that need stroking...thank god hanns is around to share my ego stroking workload

seems to be less petty name calling now than in the past. that's a good thing.
Less? You mean there was even more in the past?

You must have missed it when the General Board invaded the Playground and sat around making crap assed Shockwave Flash movies parodying the PG.. and worse. All done by the same people who say that Lancecastor and Hanns Schmidt are fucktards.

And this was all very recent.

Some asshole ran my friend Still~Rain (formerly MistressRain) off of Lit after running her off another board. All over allegations of stuff that MistressRain never even did. Again, fairly recent.

It's getting ugly as fuck around here.

Oh for goodness sake! No one ran anybody off! People
choose to leave. Yes, some get flamed around here.
But how you handle that is up to you.
There have been regulars here who have been trolled
and stayed because they won't let some dickhead
have the satisfaction of seeing them leave.
Others have really busy lves and pop in infrequently.

Lit is what you make it. Like any community.

As for the playground fiasco? That was a small storm
in a tea cup. A few people wandered over there.

If we are considered a GBer do we have to ask to be allowed to post at the playground? I'll post where I please ty.

Yay for free speech!

See I was right! The playground incident was so blown out of proportion! Anyway, nothing new to add. I like to watch Debbie get all riled up!:D

Yay for Debbie speaking her mind!

You'd don't have a single fucking clue, do you?

At least you're not afraid to look like a fucking ignorant ass.

Hmmm maybe we should bring Deborah back to do some Fall cleaning. That always worked in the past.

Lit is what we make it. Our experience of Lit is what we choose it to be.

One of my pet peeves is seeing people complaing that Lit is boring or posting threads that say "entertain me" - etc, etc. If someone is bored then they should start a thread on a topic that interests them and hopefully others will participate.

Another pet peeve of mine is people complaining about all the negativity. The negativity only exists because people participate in it. Never read or post to another thread or comment by Hanns or anyone else you dislike and you will have changed your experience of Lit. If enough people stop posting to the assholes then they'll go away - no doubt about it - because all they crave is attention - if they don't get it here, they'll get it somewhere else.

Why read threads about subjects that annoy you? Why write long diatribes responding to people who aren't worth the time?

Well - if you choose to do those things - that's your perogative, but then don't come here and complain that Lit Sucks. It sucks because you choose to allow it to.

(BTW - none of this is directed at Riff - these are just general comments on this particular subject.)

Ain't THAT the truth!

Thread after thread of people kissing each others' asses...like the Playground...or pissing on each others' feet.

General Discussion seems to be a lost concept on most of the sophmoric halfwits here, who would rather talk trash than toss around ideas.

Fools.

I have never understood the whole "I'm bored" complaint.

There is this giant entity called the World Wide Web. It has millions upon millions of sites all at the ready for people to explore. If nothing is happening at Lit, why hang around complaining? Why not use a search engine to find something that interests you?

Would these same folks stare at one television channel for hours - complaining that the show is boring? Nope, they'd be surfing.

Would they stick around the same people at a bar or get together or social setting if the company was making them yawn? No, they'd get up, move around, mingle, meet new people.

I don't understand the concept of hanging around here for hours on end waiting for something to happen. We're supposed to be well-read folks here. Why not turn off the computer and go read a book?

Very well said!

And, with that - I'm off to read a bit before going to sleep.... *smile*

I could be wrong, but my take on the "I'm bored" threads are that they are from people who want to start a conversation, but don't have anything interesting to talk about.

You've said everything I have always wanted to say about the "I'm Bored" threads but felt I didn't have the standing here to say :D

As to what Riff is saying...it does seem a little different in here now; however, I can't put my finger on the reasons why, or even say for certain that things are worse. It might just be one of those proverbial "stages" we're in right now--or that I'm in.

The Golden Age of the General Board clearly was during the Byzantine Empire (aka Eastern Roman Empire).

I just think the Greek text looked cool on the screen.

Wrong. A lot of PGers logged on to find the place filled with GBer threads.

A lot of PGers went to another website and I know where they went. (But I'm not saying because I don't want the GB "let's go fuck with people" mentality infesting them too.) They didn't see it as a "small storm" - they left Lit, especially since GBers now moderate their former board. That whole situation was an utter disgrace.

Well, I don't know why others do it, but I start "bored" threads to get women to flirt with me without working for it.

I started a thread after the creation of kinktalk about how to get a bunch of people from the playground to leave and start their own site.

Here we go.

It's ironic that she should say that.. seeing as this is a website with a heavy emphasis on porn stories.

When I get bored of the board I go and work on writing a story.

I think it would be interesting to see how many GBers actually read or write erotica.

I read and write erotica.

The GBers who now moderate the playground are two people
who I know are fair minded and well suited to the position.

I was reading as the playground thing happened. The original thread should not have been moved.
Personally I thing this topic has been hashed and rehashed.
No matter what I say or do you have formed the opinion that this was some sort of GB vandalism on the inner sanctum of the playground.

I don't have a problem with the playground. Each to their own. But I don't post there. Why? Because I am probably considered a
GBer and the people who post at the playground may think they are under 'attack' again.

So you hate the fact that some people will hold you accountable to your views, thoughts, and pronouncements. You'd prefer not to be Voltaire, but just another anonymous screaming voice in the mob…

No. This is better. If you want to spout negativity, just make up another user name like the rest of the children.

Tell me where you teach so I know never to relocate to your community….

Nothing worse that a stank old flirt thread that just reeks of seconds, or thirds...

This is the internet, people.

If it ain't fun, go find something that is.

If it hurts, stresses you, frustrates you, go find some other ENTERTAINMENT.

After all, that is what lit is supposed to be, entertaining. And when it isn't, make it fun or find something else to do.

Ignore the crap and find the good stuff.

Now, I will have that first cup of coffee!
I hate being cranky and posting before coffee.

:D

If that happened to you, it's a pity. But I can recall some funny as hell posts by unregistereds. And they were not abusive.

Again, I am sorry that happened for you... if it did.

no, never me personally. I just recall watching it happen and thinking "oh for fucks sake, someone's doing it again."

Ultimately though for me, whether or not this place is a good hangout or not isn't down to the registered/unregistered thing. There have been a number of really good comments in this thread already so I feel no need to belabour the point - you like it, you stay; you don't like it, you go.
