I watched a bit on this last night on the news, it was just a blurb, and I really wasn't paying attention. But it got me thinking.

How would this even be possible? Discerning who gets what. What families were in the states then, who came after, the length a family was enslaved, etc.

And who would pay? Would it be a small addition to your yearly taxes? Would it come out of the goverment kitty? If it was a tax thing, who pays? Like the blacks, not all white families have been here that long, some didn't even own slaves. How is it justified? I mean, I know my family owned slaves. There were some small manner of records kept, but I've never cared to see them. But why should I myself, or my parents, or my grandparents be involved? We never had slaves, would never think of it.

Is there any legal basis? Blacks, what are your thoughts? Whites, yours?
