Every day, millions of people take to the roads and head off to work.
For some, it's a time they can use to relax - me time, if you will - away from the hectic family and before the stress of the job.
For others, it's complete hell.... traffic snarls, delays, dealing with inconsiderate road users....

How long is your commute? How far do you have to travel?
Do you enjoy your drive, or does it set the shitty tone for the rest of the day?

My money is earned in a non-conventional manner.

No commute.

Hennessy shot just consumed, straight with no chaser.

Word!

Same.
Except for the Hennessey - I'm sipping a cheeky red before cooking dinner (homemade fettucine with garlic and bacon sauce.)

I need a fucking beer.

When I worked in London I used to commute by train.

From our first house it took 1.5 hours to reach Central London and another 1/4 of an hour to get to my place of work. I usually got a seat on the train going to London, and a seat when halfway back home.

When we moved, it took 1.75 hours to reach Central London but the travelling experience was much better. I could have breakfast in the Restaurant Car, and tea in the Restaurant Car on the return journey, but after several years the Restaurant Car was replaced by a trolley service - nowhere near the same experience.

Gradually the service became more crowded, more expensive and slower. Now that there is a High Speed train on part of the route, the standard service is worse.

In 1939 the train was faster, the Restaurant Car had Silver Service, and commuters had reserved seats. Those who had breakfast every day would find their freshly-prepared meal waiting for them as they boarded the train.

Those who commute now hate the experience.

How fucking old are you?

I live in the country near the city of Edmonton and work from home most days, it takes me 45minutes to an hour to get to meetings downtown.

I was really thinking hard of moving to Toronto to advance my career, and anywhere a house is affordable the commute times are 90 minutes plus.

I was prepared to do it, but was recently promoted without going to Toronto, and I am pretty thankful I won't be spending 3+ hours a day commuting.

Yeah, you have the benefit of the Oilers too. Oh, sorry...

It takes me 5 to 7 minutes to get to work. There is one stop sign and one light that I turn right at.
I have to cross a set of railway tracks and if I see a train near where I cross I can go the other way and get by it, that also bypasses a possible red light as well. It might be 50 yards further that way but I never measured it.

I do wish it was a bit further for the "me" time actually but its nice for when I'm real busy and have to go home for dinner at 5 and back again after to put in a couple more hours.

My home base is 4 minutes from my house if I hit the light right. However I tend to travel a lot a few times a month, 4 or more hours on the road to get to whichever place I have to break heads in.

I don't take to the roads, I take to the rails. 5 minute stroll to the station, sub standard coffe-to-go (but who's picky at 7 in the morning?) at the 7-11, 30 minutes of Zen in a moderately comfy seat in never too crowded high speed carriages, and a 5 minute stoll to the office.

Other days I commute naked, 10 ft from the bed to the desk.

How fucking old are you?

As King Og, about 5,000 years.

As me, old enough to have commuted, and talked with people on my train who were commuting before 1939.

And old enough to have discussed social history with relations who were born in the 1870s.

Thirty minutes, I don't mind it in the morning but it sucks at night a lot of the time.

My commute is a 30 minute 13 mile pleasure. I'm often the only car on the road and can stop to take pics whenever I please...

Here's one from the other morning...

My last office was 20 minutes from home with moderate traffic. That was ok. It was right downtown though, directly across the street from the courthouse and city county building so going out at lunch or around 5pm was asking for road rage. Or parking garage rage. Whichever.
Now my commute consists of going from the bed to the coffee maker.
