Well, hmmm....there was book I picked up at a local book store, it was written by a local person (just some guy). It was cheap. It was supposed to be "science fiction." So, being a science fiction fan, I bought it. It was AWEFUL. I mean, I've read 5th grade stories that were better - WAY BETTER. It wasn't just that the plot was stupid, or simply that the writing was really poor and really stilted. The characters were so trite and one dimensional that to call them trite and one dimensional is actually a compliment. I got about one chapter into it and was like "well no wonder it didn't sell, who the hell published this?" And realized it was one of those "vanity" publications.
