Plan to. One will hopefully visit me next year in an European city close enough to manage with some pre-planning, two I will include when traveling for my research anyhow. I've met people from the internet forever, many offline friendships I cherish started online. I am very fond of my friends, wherever I may have met them first.

Does the place of meeting really matter that much? Your similarities may be an interest in politics, blues music, the old ethernet or some shared kink or suffering, but you still build an emotional connection and friendship from there.

Obviously one should always be safe and not meet with someone they don't know without some common sense. But the whole stranger danger hysteria is not really a thing in Europe.

I punished an old lover for a week by ruling out sex. Bad decision in hind sight though, I think we would have become entangled has more gone on.
