What is your Totem Animal? What creature on this earth symbolizes what you aspire to be? What creature symbolizes what you are, or was in the past? Why?

Presently, the crow best symbolizes who I want to become. I don't want to be the best... just known. I want to be strong and heard, and I don't want to have to deal with anybody else's shit. I want to be like Thought and Memory, the two crows that pirched themselves on Odin's shoulders.

My past self seems to have been a jelly fish; free formed and odd. Easily damaged but fast to heal. Alive, and yet without any definition or catagory.

I am like the wolf

cause I said so :p

I'm usualy worry free, if there is a problem comeing up, well I do worry about it but don't do anything to provent it, what comes will come.

live in the now with no worrys just like the wolf

Why doesn't anyone ever choose Homo Sapien as their spirit guide or animal totem? I mean, hell, they can talk already. Makes those mushroom induced visions a hell of a lot easier to understand.

My spirit guide is a raven. He talks to me in tongues of different species. He flies straight and true and leads the way for me. When I need him, I go for a walk and the raven talk to me, it soothes me.

An indian(Native American) guide told me that i represent the Raven.
It makes sense.
My chinese(sp)guide told me to avoid the monkey!
Makes sense too.
Most of all,my horoscope says i'm a libra.
That is true to the fullest.
Great thread Black_Bird.

Gee... we have a murder of black bird right here... two ravens and one crow!

Armadillo - first reaction - Ewww. But kinda cute once you observe it for awhile.

I have the Totem animal of a Wolf. It suits me, and I feel comfortable with it.

Cymbidia- Most times, if you can find a local Shaman (not too hard in San Fran), you can have that person do a reading. They can help you in finding your totem.

I choose dragon.
And not because of the obvious factors, like big, strong, all-powerful, egotistical, etc. Its not meant as bragging.

I choose it because the dragon represents intelligence, chaotic impulses, tempered by wisdom.
It has great power, but is restrained by responsibility.

It embodies everything I try to be.

Add another feather to the flock! Only a bit of a different kind...

Blue heron here. Once I "found" that, more things made sense...it's also one of the reasons I adore the PNW!

Also, I'd call secondary as orca.

(OK, total side note here...)

The orca I identified with ages and ages ago. The heron I had always been drawn to, but never really knew why so much until I did my journeying a couple years ago.

When I was working in home hospice, there was the most amazing woman...dying of cancer. Her son was a graphic artist, and drew illustrations for children's books (he was about 21 and absolutely phenomenal!). Her totem animals were the heron and orca as well, and we immediately hit it off well. Her son had drawn this great design, of an Athabascan style orca wrapped into an Athabascan heron...it was called "Ellen's Totem" and my patient and her two children had all gotten matching tattoos of it. They also had them made into magnets, to give to friends and family to remember her by. The last day I saw her, she graced me with one of them. It is actually one of my most cherished things. I smile whenever I see it, and remember her...my sister of fin and feather.

I would like to see herons again before I leave...do they have them in Germany? I wonder...and I have never seen an Orca live, other than vague memories of Shamu when I was a kid...I long for the day to see one live in it's natural habitat.

I have no clue, BB.
How do i find out?

I suppose its something you know and feel in your heart...
... or you don't.

If you want to find out, I suggest some meditation paired with heavy breathing... OR just choosing an animal you like and learning to identify with it. Either way, it says something about you.
