The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

I'm struggling to understand social media--Bluesky, in this case. The current problem is how to post to a specific feed (#gardening). I have on-going needs to tune what's in my own feed so I'm not inundated with screechy politics, too much graphic porn, or other writers just promoting their own work without engaging in any kind of conversation.

Another beautiful day and a great day to play some bagpipes while sashaying around ...

I've started a new pot of coffee since @sirhugs finished the last one. The teapot is hot and ready for those who want some tea. Green tea is great for those who are having issues with insulin tolerance. There are donuts and muffins on the counter for those who don't have insulin issues (or don't worry about it if they do).

I'll be over in the corner trying to write more on my story without getting the frosting from the vanilla cupcakes all over the keyboard ...
CK I have a great muffin recipe for anyone counting carbs or needs gluten free; it is also delicious and high protein (peanut or almond butter). Grandson is trying to up his protein count and this recipe has 15 g protein per muffin.

I'd like to see that recipe, please. Bec is trying to up her protein, but shop bought bars have so much sugar...

My understanding is that it’s the same as X nee Twitter: you simply include the hashtag in the text of your post. Either weave it into a sentence (“A great thing about #gardening is that it really let’s you get in the weeds”) or dump all relevant hashtags separately at the end of the post.

After a week of being sick, revising a story for the Halloween contest, and stressing over every tiny detail, I'm finally feeling like a normal human again. It was only a week, but Taylor Swift has 9% more studio albums now than when I started, so the world is at least 9% better than it was before.
big hugs

The weatherman is saying there's a cold front coming through on Monday and our temperatures will return to normal and we'll even get some rain. We're going to need it so it is welcome.

There's a fresh pot of coffee going and the teapot is ready. There are donuts on the counter and I'm going to make another apple crisp today. Maybe we can get @AloneTooLong to make some of her cupcakes for us.

I'll be over in the corner working on the ending scene for my 2025 Winter Holiday Contest story. Once I finish that, I only have a few more scenes to insert into the story before it is ready for 'The Final Edit.' Then I can start on another (much shorter) story I plan to write for the contest.

I'm finally back to making good progress on the first draft of my SciFi novel. About haflway through the draft, hoping to finish the draft this week. Then set it aside for maybe a month before working on revising.

It's supposed to be beautiful today and tomorrow. We may go on a foliage drive through the mountains tomorrow. And next week is break week, so lots of time to write (and hopefully read).

I have to admire someone that could put a story aside for anything like a month before revising. I can barely wait a day. Might be a symptom of my anxiety, or maybe once I create a world and populate it with characters I enjoy or even love, I need to share it with an audience.

That's the way it's supposed to work, but it turned out that the Gardening feed was a closed feed. You have to be cleared by the feed starter to post. Once you're cleared, they also use the 🌱 icon to filter messages. I found no documentation of that, but I found the feed named Gardening (open) and it came clear.

Well that is the theory at least. I haven't been able to do it before either. I am going to try to distract myself by writing drafts for two more novels in the interim. And the rotate on working on them until all three are finished (first quarter next year, I hope).

Whether this hope is in vain remains to be seen. But I am an eternal optimist. Except when I'm depressed and a pessimist.

The first mass ascention of this year's Balloon Fiesta is starting now. The sun isn't up yet, so it's just getting underway.

Edit: Oops. They aren't launching this morning. I didn't keep the audio on long enough to hear why, but it usually means the ground level wind speed at the launch site is over 8 knots.

help. the black cloud is sneaking in over my right shoulder. I should be better once my cousin comes to visit, but tht's not for a half hour. need to stop crying before then.

My SO and I caught an ascension for the balloon festival years ago (mid-80's) completely by accident. We had spent a few vacation days in Santa Fe and came down to Albuquerque the night before our mid-day flight to a conference for work. We noticed at the hotel that this was balloon festival and decided we had time to go there in the morning before having to go to the airport. One of my favorite mornings anywhere.

Somewhere I saw they no longer let everyone down on the field during the ascension. Is that true? If so it's a shame. We arrived in the pre-dawn dark. We only really realized the sun had come up when enough balloons around us took off to expose us to the light. It really was magical.

I created a second account on Bluesky without Adult-only content. I can start from scratch on who I'm following there.
I did a similar thing on another social media site which I visit maybe once every other month. Beyond Author's Hangout here on Lit and a few other forums over on WRIST.pub I have no need for social media. I like writers and I found that erotica writers are a more real and accepting kind of person than anyone I ever met except for bomb loaders. I wonder why that is.

Oh well, morning coffee is done, washed down with a cuppa English Breakfast tea and its off to polish up the Halloween contest entry. Only two questions remain:

1. Erotic Horror or Loving Wives? (To me they're both the same)

2. Will it ever be published?

Quick! Imagine six busty women in sexy nurse costumes doing the cha-cha.

Also I know black clouds and that probably won't work, so have one of these. đź«‚

I don't think there are any limits on people on the fields. They moved the fiesta from the site it would have used in the mid-80s to a much larger launch site farther north and owned by the city. On-field attendance averages around 100,000 each day of the fiesta.

They have limited the number of balloons. They realized that, even under the best conditions, they could only launch something like 750 balloons a day. They limited the number of registered balloons so that anyone who wanted to fly would have a chance.

There are still a lot of balloonists who come here during the Fiesta and fly from other sites. The air at my house is dead calm and it probably is elsewhere too, so there are probably balloons flying. If I were to get on my roof to look around, I'd probably still find 100 or so balloons in the air that launched from other sites.

I will be getting on my roof later to close up the cooler, but that will be after the balloons should all have landed.
